NEET-UG – NTA Opens OMR Response Challenge Window Ahead of Result Declaration

NEET-UG – Candidates who appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 retest now have a limited opportunity to verify their recorded responses after the National Testing Agency opened the challenge facility for scanned OMR answer sheets. The process is available until July 15 and is expected to be one of the final stages before the examination results are announced later this month.

Candidates Can Review Recorded Responses Until July 15

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Monday that students who appeared in the NEET-UG 2026 retest held on June 21 can raise objections regarding the recorded responses on their Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) answer sheets. The challenge window will remain open until 11 a.m. on July 15.

More than 20 lakh candidates have received scanned copies of their individual OMR sheets on the email addresses they registered during the application process. The same documents have also been made available through the official NEET portal to help students review the responses captured by the examination system.

Challenge Fee and Payment Process

Candidates who believe there is a mismatch between the answers they marked and the responses recorded by the system can submit an online challenge by paying a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 for each disputed response.

According to the agency, payments can be completed using debit cards, credit cards, or net banking. Officials have made it clear that objections submitted without the required payment will not be processed.

The latest announcement applies only to recorded OMR responses. NTA clarified that the answer key challenge process has already concluded, and no additional objections regarding answer keys will be accepted.

Result Timeline Appears to Remain on Schedule

The release of the OMR challenge facility indicates that the examination authority is progressing with its evaluation schedule. With this verification stage now underway, the NEET-UG 2026 retest results are expected to be declared before July 20, in line with the timeline indicated earlier.

The OMR technology used during the examination relies on scanners that detect shaded circles by reflecting light from the answer sheet. This automated process enables rapid and accurate recording of candidate responses, although candidates are now being given an opportunity to verify that the captured data matches their original markings.

Experts Encourage Students to Check Carefully

Education experts have welcomed the decision, saying it strengthens confidence in the examination process.

Harpreet Singh, Director of Visionary MasterZ, said the availability of scanned OMR sheets gives students a final chance to confirm that every recorded answer matches what they actually marked during the examination. He advised candidates to examine each response carefully and submit a challenge immediately if they identify any genuine discrepancy.

Ashutosh Pande, a representative of the same institute, noted that in rare cases, lightly shaded answer bubbles may not be interpreted correctly by automated scanning software. Allowing students to verify recorded responses, he said, helps identify such instances before the results are finalized.

How Candidates Can Submit an OMR Challenge

Students must first visit the official NTA examination website and sign in using their application number and password. After logging in, they are required to complete two-factor authentication by verifying their registered mobile number and email address.

Once authentication is complete, candidates can access the dedicated portal titled “View Challenge OMR Sheet & Recorded Responses.” A high-quality scanned image of their submitted answer sheet, along with the recorded response data, will be displayed.

If any recorded response differs from what the candidate believes was originally marked, they can select the relevant question number, choose the correct option, and complete the challenge by paying the prescribed fee within the deadline.
