NationalTribute – Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with deep respect and patriotic spirit in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, where people from different walks of life gathered to honour the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil conflict. The commemorative event took place at the historic Shaheedi Smarak near the Town Hall and brought together ex-servicemen, local residents, NCC cadets and students from educational institutions across the district to pay homage to the nation’s fallen heroes.

Community Comes Together to Honour the Fallen

The ceremony reflected a strong sense of national pride as participants remembered the courage and dedication of the soldiers who defended India’s borders during Operation Vijay. Floral tributes were offered at the memorial, while attendees observed the occasion with solemn respect, acknowledging the sacrifices that continue to inspire future generations.

Addressing the gathering, Renu Sharma, Principal of Sant Ishwariya Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, extended greetings on Kargil Vijay Diwas and encouraged young people to remain committed to serving the nation. She said the freedom enjoyed by citizens today is the result of the bravery and sacrifice of countless soldiers and urged the youth to always place the country’s interests above personal considerations. She also paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs, describing them as enduring symbols of courage and patriotism.

Veterans Highlight Continued Recognition

During the programme, a former serviceman spoke about the importance of maintaining strong ties with retired military personnel. He noted that while active soldiers receive support from the government, gestures of appreciation after retirement also play a meaningful role in strengthening the confidence of veterans and their families.

The former serviceman said that visits by ministers or government representatives to retired soldiers send a powerful message that the nation values their service beyond their years in uniform. According to him, such recognition not only boosts the morale of veterans but also reinforces public respect for those who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding the country.

ARTRAC Pays Tribute on Kargil Vijay Diwas

Separately, the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) headquarters observed the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas with a solemn commemorative ceremony honouring the courage and sacrifice displayed by Indian soldiers during Operation Vijay in 1999.

According to an official statement, the programme began at the Shradhhanjali Sthal in Annandale, where Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ARTRAC, laid a wreath on behalf of all ranks to remember the soldiers who lost their lives while protecting the nation’s sovereignty.

The ceremony included a two-minute silence as buglers played the traditional “Last Post,” creating a moment of reflection for those in attendance.

Legacy of Operation Vijay Continues to Inspire

Speaking on the occasion, the Army Commander recalled the determination, courage and unwavering commitment shown by the troops during the challenging operations in the icy mountains of Kargil. He said the soldiers demonstrated exceptional dedication despite extremely difficult conditions, setting an example of service and sacrifice for future generations.
