Nashik – Authorities Issue Major Precautions as Heavy Rain Threat Grows

Nashik – Nashik district has been placed on heightened alert after the India Meteorological Department warned of cloudburst-like rainfall conditions on Tuesday, July 7. The State Disaster Management Cell has asked emergency agencies to stay ready for the next 48 hours as intense rain is expected in several parts of the district.

Nashik heavy rain precautionary measures

Emergency agencies directed to remain prepared

The district administration has instructed the police, fire brigade, Public Works Department, Water Resources Department, Forest Department, Highway Police and Health Department to maintain full preparedness. Officials have been told to coordinate closely in case of flooding, road blockages, landslides or other weather-related emergencies.

District Collector Ayush Prasad said the administration is monitoring the forecast and taking preventive action in vulnerable areas. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly and ghat sections where rainfall could become more severe.

Schools and markets closed in vulnerable talukas

As a precaution, all schools and weekly markets will remain closed in Nashik Gramin, Trimbakeshwar, Igatpuri, Peth and Dindori talukas. The decision was taken to reduce public movement in areas likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation has also declared a holiday for primary and secondary schools, along with colleges of all managements and mediums, within municipal limits on Tuesday. The move follows the Red Alert issued for the district and the possibility of exceptionally heavy rain during the next two days.

Forest tourism sites shut until further notice

Tourist locations managed by the Forest Department in Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri have been temporarily closed. The department imposed the restrictions on July 6 after the weather office issued a Red Alert for the district’s ghat areas and rain continued from early morning.

Visitors will not be allowed at destinations such as Anjaneri, Brahmagiri, Harihargad, Pahine, Dugarwadi and Tringalwadi. Waterfalls, trekking routes and hill ranges falling under forest jurisdiction have also been closed to prevent accidents during the wet weather spell.

West Forest Division Deputy Conservator of Forests Siddhesh Sawardekar has directed forest range officers in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar to ensure that tourist entry remains suspended until further orders. Joint Forest Management Committees in Kachurli, Harshewadi, Pahine and Kalmuste villages have been informed about the restrictions.

Police support sought to block access routes

The Forest Department has requested assistance from Trimbakeshwar Police Station to prevent visitors from reaching restricted locations through roads outside forest boundaries. Authorities are expected to place barriers and increase monitoring near popular trekking and waterfall routes.

Officials have advised people not to attempt entry into closed tourism areas, even if rainfall appears to ease temporarily. Sudden water flow, slippery terrain and reduced visibility can create dangerous conditions in forest and hill regions.

Major temples to remain closed for devotees

The district administration has ordered the closure of Trimbakeshwar Temple and Saptashrungi Temple for devotees on July 7. The decision has been taken as a precaution due to the weather warning and the likelihood of heavy rainfall around temple routes.

Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan is expected to remain in Nashik to review preparedness and assess the developing situation. He said forecasts indicate that some areas, including Trimbakeshwar and Nashik, could receive more than 300 mm of rainfall.

State issues emergency contact numbers

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed to residents across Maharashtra to remain cautious and cooperate with local authorities as persistent rain raises the risk of flooding. The State Emergency Operations Centre can be contacted through the toll-free number 1070.

People can also reach the state control room on 09321587143, 022-22027990 and 022-22794229. District control rooms have been activated across Maharashtra, and citizens can call 1077 for assistance in their respective districts.
