MetroFire – A fire incident at an under-construction section of Mumbai Metro Line 2B caused concern late on Monday night after flames were seen on an elevated portion of the project near the Bandra Reclamation flyover. The incident occurred around 11 pm and drew immediate attention as smoke and fire became visible from a considerable distance. Motorists travelling beneath the structure witnessed the situation unfold while traffic continued to move along the busy route connecting Bandra East and Bandra West.
Fire Reported on Elevated Metro Structure
According to information from the site, the blaze broke out on the cable-stayed segment of the metro corridor that is currently under construction. Eyewitness videos circulating online showed flames rising from the elevated section along with dense smoke. Some pieces of burning construction material were reportedly seen falling close to the roadway below, raising concerns among commuters and drivers using the stretch at the time.
The incident highlighted the challenges of maintaining safety at large-scale infrastructure projects located above active public roads. Given the importance of the route, the situation prompted immediate action from emergency teams.
Emergency Teams Respond Swiftly
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) later confirmed that the fire was reported at approximately 10:52 pm at a specific location within the Metro Line 2B project. Officials stated that the flames involved wooden shuttering material, commonly used during construction work.
Authorities said the project’s emergency response personnel reached the location quickly and worked alongside the Mumbai Fire Brigade to contain the fire. Their efforts helped bring the situation under control within a short period, preventing any major escalation.
No Structural Damage Detected
Following an initial assessment, MMRDA stated that the metro structure did not suffer any damage from the fire. Officials also confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.
The authority emphasized that the integrity of the under-construction infrastructure remains unaffected. Engineers and project teams carried out inspections after the fire was extinguished to ensure that construction elements remained secure and stable.

Authorities indicated that precautionary measures at project sites are being reinforced to reduce the likelihood of similar occurrences. Monitoring of safety compliance is also expected to become more stringent, with a focus on safeguarding both construction workers and members of the public.
