MDDrug – Mumbai Police Arrest Two More as Major Narcotics Investigation Expands

MDDrug – The Mumbai Police has widened its investigation into an alleged narcotics network after arresting two more suspects and recovering a large quantity of a regulated chemical believed to be used in the production of synthetic drugs.

Mumbai md drug probe arrests expand

The Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC), Kandivali Unit, has arrested two additional individuals in connection with an ongoing commercial MD drug case, raising the total number of arrests to six. During the latest operation, officers also confiscated 210 kilograms of liquid 2-Bromo-4-Methylpropiophenone, a controlled precursor chemical that is commonly used in the illegal manufacture of MD (Mephedrone). The development marks another significant step in the agency’s continuing crackdown on organised drug trafficking.

Intelligence-led operation leads to arrests

According to police officials, the case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The investigation is also linked to an earlier case registered at Agripada Police Station.

The two accused, aged 32 and 27, both residents of Mumbai’s Pydhuni locality, were taken into custody during an intelligence-based operation carried out around 4:30 a.m. on July 11. Investigators said they had received specific information a day earlier suggesting that a consignment of liquid MD-related material would be delivered in the Wadi Bunder area.

Large quantity of regulated chemical recovered

Acting on the tip-off, the ANC team laid surveillance in the area before intercepting the suspects. During the search, officers recovered 210 kilograms of liquid 2-Bromo-4-Methylpropiophenone. Authorities described the substance as a regulated precursor chemical that plays an important role in the illicit production of MD drugs.

Police believe the seizure has disrupted a key part of the supply chain used by those involved in manufacturing synthetic narcotics. The chemical has been taken into custody for further forensic examination as investigators continue to gather evidence in the case.

Investigation linked to earlier high-value drug seizure

Officials said the latest action forms part of the same investigation in which the ANC had previously recovered 14 kilograms of MD along with liquid MD valued at more than ₹50.74 crore. With the latest arrests, six people have now been apprehended in connection with the case.

Investigators are examining whether the accused were involved only in the transportation of precursor chemicals or played a larger role within the suspected drug network. The probe is also focusing on identifying additional individuals who may have participated in the procurement, processing, and distribution of illegal narcotics.

Police examine wider network and financial trail

The Anti-Narcotics Cell suspects that the operation may be part of a well-organised syndicate with possible connections extending beyond Maharashtra. Officers are currently analysing financial records, communication details, and the movement of chemicals to identify suppliers, financiers, and distribution channels associated with the network.

Police officials stated that the investigation remains active and further arrests cannot be ruled out as more evidence is collected.

Previous anti-drug action in Goregaon

The latest breakthrough comes just weeks after another major enforcement action by the Mumbai Police. On June 27, the ANC’s Kandivali Unit conducted a raid in Goregaon and seized approximately 750 grams of heroin valued at nearly ₹3.75 crore. During that operation, one accused, identified as Subhan Imran Gada, was arrested following intelligence inputs about alleged drug-related activities in the area.

Investigators are continuing to examine the origin of the heroin recovered in the Goregaon case and are also exploring whether it has any connection with interstate or international trafficking networks. The accused was produced before a court and subsequently remanded to police custody to facilitate further questioning as the investigation progressed.
