MaharashtraPolitics – Uddhav Thackeray Reviews Party Strategy Amid Fresh Political Challenges
MaharashtraPolitics – Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray convened a key meeting with senior party leaders in Mumbai on Monday to assess the evolving political landscape in Maharashtra. Discussions reportedly focused on organisational affairs, preparations for upcoming political developments, and the party’s approach within the state legislature at a time of heightened political activity.

Political Climate Shifts After Council Election Results
The meeting took place shortly after the Maharashtra Legislative Council election results, which delivered a significant victory to the ruling Mahayuti alliance. The alliance secured 16 of the 17 seats for which results were announced, reinforcing its influence across local self-government institutions and strengthening its political standing ahead of future electoral contests.
Voting for the seats was conducted on June 18, although six Mahayuti-backed candidates had already been elected unopposed before polling, giving the alliance a substantial head start in the contest.
BJP Leads Mahayuti’s Strong Performance
Among the ruling coalition partners, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the biggest beneficiary, winning 11 seats. The Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde secured three seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party faction headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar won two.
Political observers view the outcome as another indication of the ruling alliance’s growing organisational strength across Maharashtra’s regional political structure.
Nashik Result Draws Attention
The lone exception to Mahayuti’s near-sweep came in Nashik. Independent candidate Gokul Gite, who contested as a BJP rebel, defeated Shiv Sena candidate Narendra Darade. The result has been widely interpreted as a setback for the party in a constituency where it had expected a stronger performance.
Several candidates from the alliance had already secured victory without facing a contest. These included Ravindra Phatak and Dushyant Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena, Aniket Tatkare and Vikram Kakade from NCP, and Arun Lakhani along with Prajakt Tanpure from BJP.
Speculation Over Possible Defections Continues
Alongside the election results, attention has also shifted to reports surrounding an alleged political move informally referred to as “Operation Tiger.” The speculation centres on claims that some Shiv Sena (UBT) lawmakers could be in contact with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.
The discussion gained momentum after a recent parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi saw limited attendance from the party’s Lok Sabha members. Only Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai and Rajabhau Waje were present, while several other MPs did not attend.
Party Leadership Responds to Absences
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut had earlier stated that the process of seeking action against absent MPs had already been initiated. The issue has added another layer of uncertainty within the party as it attempts to maintain organisational cohesion.
The names linked to the ongoing speculation include Nagesh Aashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar and Bhausaheb Wakchaure. Their absence from the parliamentary meeting has fuelled discussions about possible political realignments, although no official announcement regarding any defection has been made.
Focus on Future Political Strategy
Against this backdrop, Monday’s meeting led by Uddhav Thackeray is being viewed as an effort to consolidate the party’s position and prepare for future political challenges. With the ruling alliance strengthened by its recent electoral success and speculation continuing over internal developments within Shiv Sena (UBT), Maharashtra’s political landscape remains closely watched.
