Infrastructure –  India’s infrastructure expansion, urban development projects, and public welfare initiatives have remained central themes during the past twelve years of governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Delhi Leadership Highlights National Progress

Speaking at a press briefing alongside Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reflected on the completion of twelve years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership at the national level. She stated that India has strengthened its position in the global economy and emerged as an important contributor to international growth during this period.

Gupta pointed to developments in transportation infrastructure, noting that the country’s metro rail network has witnessed substantial expansion since 2014. According to her, the metro system, which previously covered 248 kilometres, now extends beyond 1,095 kilometres and serves 26 cities across India. She added that Delhi alone now has a metro network approaching 400 kilometres in length.

Expansion of Metro and Aviation Networks

The Chief Minister also spoke about ongoing improvements in urban transport connectivity. She said that the capital has already begun operating its first ring metro service, while work is underway to add another 180 kilometres to the existing metro network.

In the aviation sector, Gupta highlighted the rapid growth of airport infrastructure. She stated that more than 164 airports are currently functioning across the country, helping India become the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market. The expansion of air connectivity, she said, has improved accessibility and supported economic activity in various regions.

Central Assistance for Delhi Projects

Discussing the impact of Central Government initiatives in Delhi, Gupta said several development programmes have received significant financial support over the years. She noted that nearly Rs 3,000 crore was provided to support sewer infrastructure projects in unauthorised colonies and to address the issue of untreated wastewater entering the Yamuna River.

According to Gupta, these efforts were aimed at improving sanitation services and strengthening urban infrastructure in densely populated areas of the national capital. She said such projects have contributed to long-term environmental and public health goals.

Focus on Cleanliness and Waste Management

The Chief Minister further highlighted funding received under the Swachh Bharat Mission. She stated that the Central Government allocated Rs 1,550 crore to assist Delhi in tackling landfill accumulation and upgrading sanitation facilities.

She said the support has played a role in reducing the volume of waste stored at major landfill sites while improving waste management systems across the city. Gupta also mentioned that Delhi received Rs 821 crore in special assistance during the 2025–26 financial year to accelerate ongoing development works and infrastructure projects.

Rural Connectivity Receives Attention

State BJP president Harsh Malhotra focused on the benefits of several national welfare and infrastructure schemes. Referring to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, he said rural connectivity has improved considerably over the last twelve years.

Malhotra stated that approximately 4.5 lakh kilometres of rural roads have been constructed under the programme, helping improve transportation links between villages and urban centres. He said better road connectivity has supported economic opportunities, access to services, and overall development in rural regions across the country.

The leaders described these achievements as part of a broader effort to strengthen infrastructure, improve public services, and support economic growth throughout India during the past decade.
