Infrastructure – Delhi Eyes Over Rs 7,000 Crore in Central Support This Fiscal
Infrastructure – Delhi is likely to receive financial assistance exceeding Rs 7,000 crore from the Centre during the ongoing fiscal year, with major allocations expected for road expansion, infrastructure upgrades, and cleaning of the Yamuna River. Officials shared the details on Thursday, highlighting that several proposals linked to civic development are already awaiting approval from the Union government.

Proposals Sent for Key Civic Projects
According to officials familiar with the matter, project proposals amounting to nearly Rs 1,000 crore have been submitted for clearance. These proposals are related to works planned by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). The projects are aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure and improving water-related services across the national capital.
Government estimates indicate that Delhi may receive around Rs 591 crore through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund. In addition, approximately Rs 1,500 crore is expected under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, which includes efforts focused on improving the condition of the Yamuna River. Another Rs 100 crore is likely to be allocated for enhancing disaster management systems and emergency preparedness in the city.
Centrally Sponsored Schemes to Bring Major Allocation
Officials also stated that the Delhi government is expected to receive nearly Rs 3,931 crore under various centrally sponsored schemes during the financial year. These schemes generally support sectors such as public health, education, urban development, sanitation, and welfare initiatives.
A senior government official said the total assistance expected from the Centre for 2026-27 could cross Rs 7,000 crore. This projection is estimated to be nearly 34 percent higher than the revised financial estimates prepared for the same period. The expected increase reflects a stronger focus on infrastructure expansion and environmental improvement projects in the capital.
Previous Year Grants Fell Below Expectations
Financial records also reveal that Delhi received significantly lower central grants during the previous fiscal year compared to the original projections. Revised estimates for 2025-26 showed that the actual grants remained nearly 56 percent below the budget expectations.
Data further showed that although Delhi had anticipated receiving nearly Rs 6,000 crore from the Centre during the last financial year, no actual receipts were reflected at the revised estimate stage for certain allocations. This gap between projected and received funds affected several planned infrastructure and development activities.
Road Fund Allocation Witnessed Sharp Revision
One of the biggest changes was seen in allocations linked to road development projects. Delhi had initially expected Rs 1,000 crore from the Central Road Fund in 2025-26. However, the revised estimate later reduced this amount to about Rs 212 crore. Officials noted that even this revised figure did not translate into actual receipts during the period under review.
The upcoming fiscal allocations are now being closely watched as the Delhi government pushes forward with large-scale projects related to roads, drainage systems, urban transport, and river cleaning initiatives. Authorities believe that timely release of central assistance will play an important role in speeding up pending public infrastructure works and environmental restoration efforts across the city.
