IndiaUSRelations – Congress leader Pawan Khera has raised questions over the practical outcomes of India’s engagement with the United States, following remarks by US President Donald Trump describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “very tough negotiator” during their recent bilateral meeting in France.
Khera, speaking at an event in Kota on Wednesday, argued that international praise for a country’s leader should be measured against the actual advantages secured for the nation. He said that public appreciation from foreign leaders carries little significance unless it translates into meaningful gains for India and its citizens.
Congress Seeks Clarity on Outcomes of Negotiations
Addressing reporters, Khera questioned whether India had received adequate benefits from its dealings with Washington despite repeated claims of strong diplomatic ties. According to him, successful negotiations should strengthen India’s interests rather than create situations that place additional burdens on the country.

Khera also referred to President Trump’s interactions with Pakistan’s military leadership, including reports of a meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir. He suggested that such engagements raise concerns about the consistency of American policy toward the region.
