Indian Army – General Dhiraj Seth Reviews Northern Command Security Preparedness
Indian Army – Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth has completed a three-day visit to the Northern Command, during which he assessed the security environment, operational preparedness and combat capability of troops deployed along the Line of Control and in key areas across Jammu and Kashmir.

The visit, held from July 7 to July 9, marked General Seth’s first visit to the Northern Command after taking charge as Chief of the Army Staff. He travelled to major military formations in Kashmir and Jammu, including Headquarters Chinar Corps, Headquarters White Knight Corps and several forward locations.
Northern Command Briefing in Srinagar
In Srinagar, General Seth received a detailed briefing on the broader operational outlook of the Northern Command and the readiness of formations under Chinar Corps. The discussions covered current deployment patterns, counter-terrorism measures and the changing security situation in the region.
The Army Chief also met Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister during his visit. Officials said the meetings focused on security coordination, stability in the Union Territory and cooperation among agencies involved in maintaining public order and safety.
Review of Amarnath Yatra Security Measures
At Headquarters Chinar Corps, General Seth reviewed arrangements related to the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra. He examined the security framework, coordination among different agencies and measures taken to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims.
The review also included counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination and preparedness for emerging challenges. Senior officers briefed the Army Chief on efforts to strengthen surveillance, improve rapid response systems and enhance coordination between the Army, Central Armed Police Forces and civil administration.
Focus on Technology and Field Innovation
During his visit to formations in Kupwara, Uri and Manasbal, General Seth assessed surveillance systems, operational planning and local innovations developed by troops in the field. He interacted with soldiers stationed in these areas and acknowledged their professionalism while operating in demanding terrain and security conditions.
An innovation display featuring indigenous technologies was also presented to the Army Chief. He underlined the importance of adopting new tools and systems that can improve situational awareness, communication and operational effectiveness in sensitive border regions.
Assessment of Forward Areas in Jammu
General Seth later visited Headquarters White Knight Corps and forward areas in Poonch, Rajouri and Sunderbani. He reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control, infrastructure projects and the combat readiness of troops deployed in the Jammu region.
Officials said the Army Chief examined the progress of facilities being developed for personnel operating in remote areas. He also reviewed measures aimed at maintaining preparedness amid evolving security concerns near the border.
Community Outreach and Operational Readiness
The visit also covered people-focused programmes being carried out in villages near the border. General Seth reviewed initiatives intended to support local communities, particularly residents of India’s first villages, through infrastructure, welfare and development-related assistance.
He praised the work of Indian Army personnel and Central Armed Police Forces deployed in the region. General Seth urged them to maintain a high level of operational readiness while continuing to work in line with the principles of Nation First and the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
