HospitalProbe – Delhi Government Orders Inquiry After Inspection Finds Lapses at Fortis Hospital
HospitalProbe – The Delhi government has launched an investigation into alleged lapses in emergency patient care after officials reported multiple compliance issues during an inspection at a private hospital in the national capital.

The Delhi government has initiated a formal inquiry into Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh after allegations of negligence in the treatment of a critically injured patient. The decision came after a complaint was submitted directly to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public grievance hearing. Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway, while officials are preparing to take action based on the findings of a multi-department inspection.
Complaint Triggered Government Investigation
The inquiry began after the family of a young man approached the Chief Minister at the Jan Seva Sadan, alleging that their son did not receive immediate treatment after being taken to the hospital with stab injuries sustained in the Shalimar Bagh area. According to the family, hospital staff allegedly sought payment before initiating medical care. They claimed that the delay in treatment contributed to the victim’s death, prompting the government to order an urgent review of the hospital’s practices.
Multi-Department Team Conducts Inspection
A joint inspection was carried out on Thursday under the leadership of District Magistrate S.S. Parihar of the Central-North District. The team included officials from the Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Fire Department, and other concerned agencies. Their visit focused on examining medical procedures, hospital infrastructure, safety measures, and compliance with existing regulations.
Multiple Irregularities Reported
During the inspection, officials identified a series of alleged violations across different areas of the hospital’s operations. These included misuse of building regulations, unauthorized construction, deficiencies in fire safety arrangements, and improper use of basement facilities. Inspectors also pointed to significant shortcomings in following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that govern emergency medical treatment and patient care.
Authorities stated that these findings would form a key part of the final investigation report, which is currently being prepared before further administrative action is taken.
CCTV Footage and Medical Records Reviewed
As part of the inquiry, the inspection team reviewed CCTV recordings from the hospital’s emergency department along with relevant medical records. Officials reported that the footage showed the injured youth entering the emergency section on his own before receiving medical attention.
The records maintained by the emergency department were also examined to establish the sequence of events and assess whether treatment protocols were followed in accordance with prescribed medical standards.
Government Signals Further Action
District Magistrate S.S. Parihar stated that the inspection had uncovered several irregularities that require detailed examination. In light of the reported deficiencies and the allegations surrounding patient care, the administration has decided to proceed with appropriate action after the completion of the inquiry.
The government has indicated that the final report will determine the next course of action, including any legal or administrative measures considered necessary. Officials have emphasized that ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and maintaining accountability in emergency medical services remain key priorities.
