Health – Maharashtra Authorities Probe Death of NEET Aspirant Amid Examination Stress
Health –A 19-year-old medical entrance aspirant from Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district has died, with local police confirming that an investigation is underway. Officials said the student, identified as Ankita Suresh Sangle, had recently received her score in the NEET re-examination and was reportedly facing emotional distress before her death.
Police Begin Investigation
According to Karjat Police, an accidental death case has been registered as part of the standard legal procedure, and further inquiries are in progress to establish all relevant circumstances. Authorities have not announced any additional findings at this stage.
Family Describes Academic Pressure
The student’s father, Suresh Sangle, said his daughter had worked hard to prepare for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and had initially performed well. He added that she became increasingly worried following the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in the examination process and remained under considerable academic pressure in the weeks that followed.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the emotional challenges faced by competitive examination candidates and their families during periods of uncertainty.
NEET Controversy Continues
The latest development comes as the nationwide debate over the NEET-UG examination continues. Allegations of a paper leak during the examination conducted in May led the government to organize a re-examination on June 21. The controversy has triggered widespread discussion regarding examination integrity, student welfare, and the need for stronger safeguards in national entrance tests.
Family of Another Aspirant Seeks Accountability
Separately, the parents of Akanksha Chaturvedi, another NEET aspirant whose death had earlier intensified public concern over the examination controversy, reiterated their demand for justice and financial compensation.
Her mother, Neelam Chaturvedi, called for strict legal action against those responsible for the alleged paper leak. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, stating that the family believes broader accountability is required.
Her father, Krishna Kumar Chaturvedi, said his daughter had dreamed of becoming a doctor and serving the country, adding that the family continues to seek justice.
Government Response
Union Minister J.P. Nadda has stated that the government has agreed to provide suitable compensation to the families of NEET aspirants who died during the controversy. The announcement came amid growing public concern over the impact of the examination dispute on students across the country.
On July 25, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister, saying his decision was taken in the larger interest of students and to help restore confidence among the country’s youth following the prolonged controversy over the examination process.
The developments have renewed calls for transparent examination systems, timely grievance redressal, and stronger mental health support for students preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations.
