Their participation reflected the importance of the occasion for the party, which recently completed internal consultations before finalizing the leadership transition in the state.

Shivakumar’s Long Political Journey

DK Shivakumar has remained one of the most influential Congress leaders in Karnataka for decades. Representing the Kanakapura Assembly constituency, he has secured election victories eight consecutive times and has played a central role in state politics.

Since taking charge as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president in 2020, Shivakumar has been credited with strengthening the party’s grassroots network. His leadership was widely regarded as a key factor behind the Congress victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.

Blessings Sought Before Taking Office

Before arriving at the oath-taking venue, Shivakumar met several religious leaders who had gathered for the occasion and received their blessings. In a personal moment ahead of the ceremony, he also sought the blessings of his mother by touching her feet before proceeding to take the oath.

The gesture drew attention from supporters and party workers, who viewed it as a reflection of his respect for family values and traditions.

Leaders Welcome the Change

The leadership transition received positive reactions from several Congress leaders. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu praised Shivakumar’s long-standing service to the party and expressed confidence in his ability to carry forward the government’s agenda.

According to Sukhu, Shivakumar’s rise to the top post reflects years of organizational work and commitment to the party. He also stated that the new Chief Minister would continue implementing policies introduced during the previous administration.

Congress Member of Parliament Rajeev Shukla also welcomed the development, describing Shivakumar as an energetic and experienced leader. He said the smooth transfer of responsibility showcased unity within the party and praised the role played by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the transition process.

Cabinet Expansion Announced

Alongside the appointment of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, the Congress leadership finalized the first group of ministers to join the new cabinet. The list includes KH Muniyappa, KJ George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Sathish Jarakiholi, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, UT Khader, Eshwar Khandre, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Byrathi Suresh, and Sharan Prakash Patil.

Their induction is expected to strengthen the new administration as it begins its next phase of governance.
