Fraud Case – Mumbai Police Nab Fugitive Accused After Nearly Two Decades

Fraud Case –  Mumbai Police have arrested a businessman who had allegedly been evading law enforcement since 2006 in connection with a cheating and forgery case. Officials confirmed on Wednesday that the accused was taken into custody following a targeted operation conducted after months of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Mumbai police arrest fugitive after two decades

The arrested individual has been identified as Sudesh Sudevan Raghavan, 46. According to police officials, he was apprehended late on June 23, 2026, from the Mira Road area of Thane district and later brought to Mumbai for further legal proceedings.

Long-Pending Case Reaches a Turning Point

Police said the case was originally registered at Colaba Police Station in 2006 under several sections of the Indian Penal Code related to forgery, use of forged documents, cheating, and common intention. Since the filing of the case, multiple efforts had been made over the years to trace the accused, but he allegedly managed to remain out of reach for nearly twenty years.

Investigators noted that locating the accused had remained a priority due to the seriousness of the allegations and the prolonged period during which he was unavailable to authorities.

Dedicated Search Efforts Intensified

Officials from the Colaba Police Externment Squad stated that a focused operation to track down wanted and absconding individuals had been underway for the past four months. During the review of historical records and case-related information, officers discovered that the accused had reportedly come into contact with law enforcement in 2021 through a separate matter handled by Narpoli Police Station.

This development provided investigators with fresh leads, prompting coordination between the concerned police units to gather additional information regarding his movements and whereabouts.

Intelligence Inputs Lead to Arrest

According to police sources, technical intelligence and field verification played a crucial role in identifying the suspect’s location. Based on the information collected, a dedicated team launched a search operation in the Mira Road locality on June 23.

The operation resulted in the successful detention of the accused, bringing an end to a search that had continued for almost two decades. Authorities stated that the arrest was carried out without any major incident.

Preliminary Inquiry Reveals Alleged Role

Police officials said that initial questioning and verification of available evidence indicated the accused’s alleged involvement in the case. During the preliminary investigation, he reportedly acknowledged his connection to the offence, following which formal arrest procedures were completed in accordance with legal requirements.

Investigators are now examining additional aspects of the case to determine whether any further developments or related links emerge during the ongoing probe.

Senior Officers Supervised the Operation

The arrest operation was conducted under the supervision of senior Mumbai Police officials, including officers from Zone-I and the Colaba Division. The coordinated effort involved multiple teams working together to trace and apprehend the long-absconding accused.

Police have reiterated their commitment to tracking down wanted individuals and ensuring that pending criminal cases are pursued regardless of the time elapsed since registration.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have indicated that further inquiries are continuing.
