First Rashtriya- Gramin Vikas Sammelan to Shape Future of Rural Development
First Rashtriya- India is preparing to strengthen its rural development framework through a nationwide policy dialogue aimed at improving governance, infrastructure, livelihoods, and welfare across villages.

National Conclave to Discuss the Future of Rural Development
The Union Ministry of Rural Development is set to host the inaugural Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan in New Delhi on June 28 and 29, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the future direction of rural development across the country. The two-day conference will focus on reviewing the progress of major government programmes while identifying new strategies to strengthen village-level governance and improve the delivery of welfare initiatives. Senior representatives from states, Union territories, and the central government are expected to participate in the event.
Leadership and Broad Participation
Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will lead the conference, which will be attended by rural development ministers from various states and Union territories, senior government officials, policymakers, development professionals, and subject experts. The gathering is expected to encourage coordination between the Centre and states while promoting the exchange of ideas for improving rural development policies.
The conference will take place at the Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Auditorium in Pusa, New Delhi.
Focus on Village Planning and Better Resource Utilisation
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, this year’s discussions will revolve around the vision of “Viksit Gram, Viksit Bharat.” A major emphasis will be placed on strengthening planning at the Gram Panchayat level so that local bodies can make better use of available resources and deliver development projects more efficiently.
Officials will also deliberate on methods to improve implementation mechanisms, ensuring that government schemes reach eligible beneficiaries in a timely and transparent manner.
Review of Flagship Rural Schemes
An important part of the conference agenda includes assessing the implementation of several flagship rural development programmes. These include the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, rural skill development initiatives, and the National Social Assistance Programme.
Separate thematic sessions will examine issues related to rural housing, road infrastructure, employment generation, skill enhancement, livelihood opportunities, and social security. The discussions are expected to help identify implementation challenges while highlighting practical solutions that can improve outcomes across different regions.
Sharing Successful Models from States
The ministry has also planned dedicated sessions where states and Union territories will present successful rural development initiatives that have delivered measurable results. These examples will be evaluated for possible adoption in other parts of the country, allowing governments to benefit from proven approaches and innovative practices.
Officials believe that sharing successful experiences among states can accelerate rural transformation by encouraging effective policy implementation and better administrative coordination.
Special Attention on Women’s Economic Empowerment
Women’s financial independence will remain one of the key themes of the conference. Discussions will include the progress of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, which seeks to enhance income opportunities for women through self-help groups and entrepreneurship.
Participants will also review ways to strengthen women-led rural enterprises, improve access to livelihood opportunities, and expand welfare measures that contribute to inclusive and sustainable rural growth.
The first Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan is expected to serve as an important platform for shaping future rural development policies while encouraging stronger cooperation between governments at different levels. The recommendations emerging from the conference are likely to contribute to a long-term roadmap aimed at creating stronger, more self-reliant, and economically vibrant villages across India.
