Fire- Deadly Gas Cylinder Explosions Claim Two Lives in Surat
Fire- A tragic fire in Gujarat’s Surat city early Thursday morning left two people dead and nine others injured after gas cylinders exploded inside a building housing an embroidery unit. Officials confirmed that the incident took place in the Kapodra area, raising concerns about safety measures in small-scale industrial setups.

Early Morning Blaze Turns Fatal
According to fire department officials, the incident occurred at around 5:30 am near Rachna Circle in the Bharatnagar locality. A fire broke out on the third floor of the building, which was being used as an embroidery unit. Within minutes, the situation escalated when gas cylinders stored inside the premises began to explode.
Authorities reported that at least eight gas cylinders were kept inside the building at the time. Two of these cylinders exploded, intensifying the fire and leading to casualties.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
Fire officials stated that as soon as the incident was reported, teams from four nearby fire stations were dispatched to the location. However, by the time the first fire engines arrived, one LPG cylinder had already exploded, allowing the flames to spread rapidly across the floor.
Firefighters had to act quickly under challenging conditions. A sheet covering part of the third floor was broken open to gain access, enabling rescue teams to reach those trapped inside. The operation required careful coordination to prevent further explosions while ensuring the safe evacuation of occupants.
Casualties and Injuries Confirmed
Rescue teams managed to pull out a total of 11 individuals from the affected area. Of these, two people succumbed to their injuries, while nine others sustained burns ranging from minor to moderate severity. The injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims, and further details about their condition are awaited.
Safety Concerns Under Scrutiny
The incident has once again brought attention to safety practices in small industrial units operating within residential or semi-commercial buildings. The presence of multiple gas cylinders in a confined space has been identified as a major factor contributing to the severity of the fire.
Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire and whether safety regulations were followed. Questions are also being raised about storage protocols for flammable materials and the preparedness of such facilities to handle emergencies.
Investigation Underway
Local authorities have begun examining the circumstances that led to the blaze. Preliminary information suggests that the fire may have originated on the third floor before triggering the explosions. However, officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause.
Further inquiries will focus on compliance with fire safety norms, licensing of the unit, and whether adequate precautions were in place to prevent such incidents.
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations, particularly in densely populated urban areas where industrial activities are carried out in close proximity to residential zones.
