Electoral Rolls – Delhi Teacher Hospitalised After Flyover Jump Attempt

Electoral Rolls –  A government school teacher involved in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls was hospitalised after allegedly attempting to take his life by jumping from the Rani Jhansi flyover in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.

Delhi teacher hospitalised after flyover jump

The teacher, identified as 45-year-old Anand Kumar Saroha, works as a mathematics teacher at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya. He was taken to St Stephen’s Hospital after the incident and is receiving treatment for multiple injuries. Medical sources quoted in reports said he suffered fractures in both arms and may require surgery. His condition is reported to be stable, and he is said to be out of danger.

Work Assignment Under Review

Saroha had been supervising Booth Level Officers assigned to the Special Intensive Revision process for electoral roll booths numbered 141 to 150 in the Sadar Bazaar area. The revision exercise involves checking and updating voter records under the supervision of election authorities.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether work-related stress and health concerns played a role. Preliminary information suggests that Saroha had been dealing with asthma and was facing significant mental strain in the days before the incident.

Family Alleges Leave Requests Were Rejected

Members of Saroha’s family have alleged that he had repeatedly sought medical leave because of his health condition but did not receive approval. His brother-in-law, Vikram Singh Tomar, said the teacher had requested around 10 days of leave and was struggling to manage his official responsibilities.

The family has alleged that Saroha was under continued pressure to complete official assignments despite being unwell. They have claimed that the teacher found it difficult to cope with the workload and administrative demands linked to the revision exercise.

Tomar alleged that Saroha had reached a point of severe emotional distress. The family has urged authorities to examine whether he was subjected to undue workplace pressure by senior officials.

Allegation of Substance Ingestion

The family has also claimed that Saroha consumed Dettol before reaching the flyover. This allegation is being examined as part of the police inquiry. Officials have not publicly confirmed the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

Investigators are expected to speak with family members, colleagues and officials connected with the electoral roll revision work. Police may also review any leave applications, duty records and communications that could help establish the circumstances before the incident.

Demand for Independent Investigation

Saroha’s relatives have called for a detailed and impartial investigation into the matter. They have sought action against any officials found responsible for creating an environment that may have added to his distress.

The family has said the case raises wider concerns about the pressure faced by government employees assigned additional duties while dealing with health issues. They have asked authorities to ensure that medical concerns and leave requests are handled fairly, particularly when employees are assigned demanding public responsibilities.

Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway. Further details are expected after statements are recorded and medical findings are reviewed. Authorities have not announced any action against officials so far.

The incident has drawn attention to the need for workplace support systems, especially for employees handling time-sensitive administrative work. The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether any lapse occurred in the handling of Saroha’s health concerns or official duties.
