Security Personnel Injured During Patrol Operation

The firing incident was reported from the Bamangheri locality under Ward No. 14 of the Sarberia-Agarhati Gram Panchayat area, which falls within the limits of the Nazat Police Station. According to local sources, a police team accompanied by personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces was conducting a patrol when unidentified attackers allegedly opened fire.

Officials said the Officer-in-Charge of Nazat Police Station, a constable attached to the Rajbari outpost, and a woman police officer suffered bullet injuries during the violence. Two jawans from the central forces were also reportedly injured in the exchange.

All injured personnel were initially taken to Minakha Rural Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were later shifted to different medical facilities in Kolkata for advanced care.

Bombs Recovered From Incident Site

During a search operation conducted after the firing, investigating teams reportedly recovered a bag containing explosives from the area. Security agencies have begun examining the materials as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police presence in and around the locality has been strengthened following the attack. Authorities are also gathering information to identify those involved in the violence and determine the circumstances that led to the firing.

Residents Describe Night of Fear

Several local residents described scenes of panic as gunshots echoed through the village late at night. One resident said her family hid under a bed after hearing commotion outside their home.

According to her account, a group of young men allegedly ran through their courtyard while trying to escape. She claimed police personnel later entered the house by breaking open the door and detained members of the family for questioning.

The woman further stated that some of those detained belonged to tribal communities while others were from the Muslim community. She said the family members were released the next morning, although some relatives continued to remain in custody.

Residents in the area said they initially struggled to understand what was happening because of the darkness and confusion during the operation. Some believed the loud sounds were caused by doors slamming or roofing sheets shaking before realising that gunfire had taken place nearby.

Political Violence Remains Under Scrutiny

The latest violence comes at a time when West Bengal continues to witness heightened political tensions after recent elections. Concerns over clashes and attacks in several districts have prompted strict monitoring by authorities.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India issued strong directions to the state administration, including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and Central Armed Police Forces, asking them to maintain zero tolerance toward any form of post-poll violence.

Officials have not yet released detailed information regarding the attackers or possible motives behind the firing. Investigations are continuing, and additional security deployment is expected in sensitive pockets of the region.

Further updates are awaited as authorities continue to assess the situation and gather evidence connected to the attack.
