ElectionUpdate – Delhi Begins Extensive Voter List Verification From June 30

ElectionUpdate –  The Election Office in Delhi has announced a detailed timeline for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with field-level verification work scheduled to begin at the end of June. Officials said the exercise is aimed at updating voter records and improving the accuracy of electoral data ahead of future elections.

The notification regarding the revision process had already been issued earlier this month. According to Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar, preparations will start from June 20 and will continue for several days before field visits begin.

Training and Preparatory Work to Start First

Election authorities stated that Booth Level Officers and Booth Level Agents will undergo training during the initial phase of the programme. Printing of forms and other logistical arrangements will also be completed during this period.

Officials confirmed that door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers will begin on June 30 and continue until July 29. During these visits, residents whose names already exist in the voter list will receive Enumeration Forms to verify and update their details where necessary.

The Election Office added that polling station rationalisation work will also be carried out simultaneously and is expected to conclude by July 29.

Draft Electoral Roll Scheduled for August Release

As per the announced schedule, the draft electoral roll will be released on August 5. Citizens will then get an opportunity to file claims or objections between August 5 and September 4.

Authorities said objections and corrections received during the process will be examined until October 3. The final electoral roll is expected to be published on October 10 after all pending claims are resolved.

Election officials emphasised that the revision process is being conducted under established legal procedures and in accordance with guidelines issued by the Election Commission.

Multiple Visits Planned for Locked Houses

CEO Ashok Kumar said special arrangements have been made to ensure that eligible voters are not left out during verification. If officials find a house locked during the first visit, the Enumeration Form will be left at the residence.

He explained that Booth Level Officers have been instructed to make at least three visits to collect completed forms. In cases where residents are still unable to submit documents physically, online submission facilities will also remain available.

Authorities believe this hybrid system will help improve participation, especially in densely populated urban areas where residents may not always be available at home during working hours.

Earlier Electoral Records Made Public

To assist long-term residents, the Delhi Election Office has uploaded voter records from the Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2002 on its official website.

Officials said residents who have been living permanently in Delhi since before 2002 can verify their names through these archived records. People who moved to Delhi from other states after that period have been advised to check their earlier voter details through the Election Commission’s online portal.

The CEO clarified that voters migrating from other states may need to provide details from their previous electoral records, including Assembly Constituency information, part number, and serial number from earlier voter lists.

Political Parties to Participate in Monitoring

Addressing concerns raised in recent years about voter list revisions in different states, election authorities said political parties would remain involved throughout the exercise.

Ashok Kumar stated that meetings have already been conducted with representatives of six recognised political parties in Delhi. He added that party-appointed Booth Level Agents would work alongside election staff at different stages of the process.

According to officials, political representatives will also be able to raise objections before senior election authorities if any issue arises during verification.

Polling Stations to Be Reorganised

The Election Commission has also reduced the maximum number of voters assigned to each polling station from 1,500 to 1,200. Officials said the move is intended to make voting more convenient and reduce crowding during elections.

District Election Officers have already been directed to complete arrangements related to forms, stationery, staffing and public assistance centres. Helpdesks have also been established at district and constituency levels to support residents during the revision drive
