ElectionSeizures – Election authorities have intensified surveillance across multiple constituencies, leading to the seizure of significant quantities of valuables and suspected inducement materials ahead of polling. Officials confirmed that strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct has resulted in the confiscation of gold, silver, liquor, and political items believed to influence voters.

Large-Scale Seizure in Udhagamandalam
In the Udhagamandalam assembly constituency, inspection teams reported the recovery of 24,391 grams of gold and silver ornaments and articles during vehicle and location checks conducted until Monday morning. Authorities estimated the value of these precious items at approximately Rs 2.15 crore.
Alongside the valuables, officials also intercepted 8,350 ml of liquor and beer that were allegedly being transported illegally through various vehicles. The enforcement teams have been maintaining continuous vigilance at checkpoints to prevent unlawful distribution of goods during the election period.
Political Materials and Banned Goods Confiscated
Officials stated that several items linked to political campaigning were also seized. These included 1,000 shawls carrying the insignia of a political party, along with boards and 500 whistles. In addition, notices related to another political group were also recovered during inspections.
Authorities clarified that such items were confiscated as they could potentially be distributed to voters as inducements. The aim of these actions is to ensure a fair electoral process and prevent undue influence on voters.
During the same enforcement drive, more than 40,000 units of banned tobacco products were also seized. When combined with the value of the confiscated gold, silver, and other materials, officials estimated the total worth of all seized items in the constituency at around Rs 2.54 crore.
Gudalur Constituency Seizures
In the neighbouring Gudalur constituency, election monitoring teams also reported notable recoveries. Around 500 grams of gold bars were seized, along with 12 packets containing coloured stones. The total value of these items was estimated at Rs 73 lakh.
In addition, officials confiscated 2,970 ml of liquor and beer from various locations. The value of these seized alcoholic beverages was reported to be approximately Rs 88.76 lakh. Authorities believe these items were being transported with the intention of influencing voters.
Enforcement Actions in Coonoor
Meanwhile, in the Coonoor constituency, officials carried out inspections that led to the seizure of various political and miscellaneous materials. These included identity cards, a silver drum, calendars, booth committee records, posters, mufflers, and envelopes containing cash associated with a political party.
Further checks resulted in the confiscation of brass items and a significant quantity of liquor, totaling 18,160 ml. Authorities noted that such seizures highlight the ongoing efforts to maintain transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
Strict Vigilance Continues
Election officials emphasized that monitoring activities will remain stringent until the conclusion of polling. Teams are conducting continuous inspections at key checkpoints, public areas, and transport routes to prevent any violations of election norms.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring that voters are not influenced by illegal inducements and that the electoral process remains free and fair. They also urged the public to cooperate with officials and report any suspicious activities.
