Large-Scale Security Deployment Across the State

Security arrangements include personnel from multiple agencies such as the state police, paramilitary forces, fire and rescue services, forest department, prison staff, and home guards. In addition, retired defence personnel and former officials from police and forest services have also been brought in to strengthen monitoring efforts.

According to police sources, around 23,000 paramilitary personnel, organized into 295 companies, have been stationed across Tamil Nadu. These units are actively involved in safeguarding polling stations and maintaining order in sensitive areas.

Detailed Breakdown of Forces on Duty

The deployment features a significant number of law enforcement officers at various levels. More than 26,000 inspectors, sub-inspectors, and special sub-inspectors are overseeing operations, supported by nearly 95,000 constables and head constables. Additionally, over 12,000 personnel from specialized task units have been assigned to critical zones.

Authorities have also mobilized approximately 20,000 retired army members, former police officers, and ex-forest guards. Their experience is being utilized to enhance vigilance and provide additional support where needed.

Special Task Forces and Rapid Response Teams

On polling day, special task force teams have been deployed in 514 vehicles across the state to respond quickly to any incidents. Their primary role is to ensure that any disruption is addressed without delay.

Alongside them, rapid response teams remain on standby in nearly 1,100 vehicles. Senior police officials, including Deputy Superintendents, Superintendents, Inspectors General, and Police Commissioners, are closely monitoring the situation to ensure coordination and swift decision-making.

Focus on Sensitive and High-Risk Areas

Authorities have identified around 6,300 locations as sensitive, prompting additional security arrangements in these regions. Extra personnel have been assigned to maintain strict surveillance and prevent any untoward incidents.

In 118 constituencies where authorities anticipate higher movement of cash, increased police presence has been ensured. These areas are under special watch to prevent violations of election guidelines.

Enhanced Security in Chennai

Within the Chennai Police Commissionerate, 198 polling stations have been classified as sensitive. These locations are under constant observation, with both local police and paramilitary forces working together to maintain security.

A total of 31 paramilitary companies have been deployed in Chennai alone, marking a significant increase compared to the previous Assembly elections, where only seven companies were stationed in the city.

Voting Process and Key Contest

Polling is being conducted for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and will continue until 6:00 pm. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4.

The election is expected to witness a closely watched contest between the DMK-led alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance. While the DMK is campaigning on its governance and welfare initiatives, the AIADMK and its allies are aiming to regain political ground.

Adding another dimension to the contest, actor-turned-politician Vijay is entering the electoral arena with his party, potentially influencing voter dynamics and making the race more competitive.
