Elections – Vijay Granted Approval for Tiruchirappalli Campaign Under Strict Conditions
Elections – Actor-turned-politician Vijay has received official clearance to conduct his election campaign in Tiruchirappalli East constituency on Sunday, with authorities imposing a detailed set of conditions to maintain public order.

Campaign Schedule and Route Details
According to officials, Vijay is expected to arrive in Tiruchirappalli from Chennai via a chartered flight before beginning his roadshow in an open vehicle. The campaign is scheduled between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM and will cover prominent locations such as Wireless Road near the airport, KK Nagar Bus Stand, and Kottapattu.
The planned route includes multiple busy stretches, including the airport area, KK Nagar, Kajamalai, and Kozhipannai Road, before concluding back at the airport. Authorities have permitted the event under 27 specific guidelines designed to regulate crowd movement and ensure security arrangements.
Manifesto Focuses on Welfare and Governance
Earlier in the week, Vijay unveiled his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s election manifesto, outlining a mix of welfare measures and governance reforms. Among the key promises is a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for women heads of households and marriage support for economically weaker families, including gold and a silk saree.
The document places strong emphasis on social welfare, education access, and economic support, positioning the party as an alternative focused on transparent administration. Vijay stressed that the manifesto reflects a commitment to honesty and responsible governance.
Criticism of Rival Political Parties
During his address, Vijay sharply criticised both ruling and opposition parties, suggesting that their election promises lack originality and substance. He argued that competing manifestos often mirror each other with only minor variations, raising concerns about their credibility.
He maintained that his party would avoid unrealistic assurances and instead focus on practical and accountable governance measures aimed at long-term benefits for citizens.
Key Proposals for Youth and Employment
The manifesto includes several initiatives targeting young people and job seekers. These include education loan guarantees of up to Rs 20 lakh without collateral and free coaching for competitive exams using advanced technology tools.
Additionally, registered graduates are promised monthly financial assistance, along with a large-scale internship programme offering stipends to both graduates and diploma holders. The proposals aim to address unemployment concerns while improving access to skill development opportunities.
Social Security and Public Welfare Measures
The party has proposed enhanced financial support for vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities. Monthly pensions are set to increase, reflecting a broader focus on social security.
Further welfare measures include subsidised LPG cylinders, financial assistance for mothers of school-going children, and interest-free loans for women-led self-help groups. The manifesto also outlines healthcare initiatives such as expanded insurance coverage and improved medical infrastructure.
Sector-Specific Plans for Growth
Farmers and fishermen have been given special attention in the policy proposals. These include crop loan waivers, minimum support price assurances, and financial aid for agricultural workers. For fishing communities, the manifesto promises relief during non-fishing periods and insurance coverage.
The party has also outlined broader economic goals, including support for small businesses and a long-term vision to strengthen the state’s economy. Technology-driven initiatives, such as establishing artificial intelligence institutions, are part of this roadmap.
Election Context and Political Landscape
Vijay’s entry into electoral politics is expected to influence the dynamics of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, scheduled for April 23. His party’s participation could lead to a multi-cornered contest, with established alliances already in place across the state.
The results, set to be announced on May 4, will determine whether new political entrants like Vijay can reshape the state’s political landscape or if traditional alliances will retain their dominance.
