Elections – The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has expressed strong confidence ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results, with senior party leader KA Sengottaiyan predicting a sweeping victory for the relatively new political outfit.
Speaking to reporters in Gobichettipalayam on Saturday, Sengottaiyan said the party is aiming to secure a commanding majority in the 234-member Assembly. He stated that TVK expects to win between 180 and 200 seats, a figure that would place it well above the majority mark.
Confident Claims Amid Political Competition
Sengottaiyan emphasized that there is no scenario in which the party would fall short of forming the government. He described the public response to the party as highly encouraging, noting increased visibility and recognition during his recent travels.
Recounting his experiences, he said people approached him for photographs both at public places and during flights, which he interpreted as a sign of growing support for the party. According to him, such interactions reflected a level of enthusiasm that he had not witnessed before.
Leadership Projection and Vision
The TVK leader also highlighted the role of party chief Vijay, projecting him as a future leader capable of governing the state with a forward-looking approach. He described the party’s journey as one marked by persistence and resilience, suggesting that its efforts would translate into a significant electoral outcome.
He added that the upcoming results would demonstrate the strength of the party and its leadership, describing the anticipated victory as potentially historic.
Remarks on Political Rivals
During the interaction, Sengottaiyan also commented on Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran. He suggested that the current election could mark the end of Nagenthran’s electoral career, indicating that future decisions regarding his political role would rest with party leadership.
Such remarks come amid intense political competition in the state, where multiple alliances and parties are contesting for dominance.
Voting Completed Across the State
Polling for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu was conducted on April 23. The election witnessed a multi-cornered contest, with TVK entering the fray against established political forces including the ruling DMK-led alliance and the opposition bloc comprising AIADMK and BJP.
The election marks TVK’s debut in state politics, making its performance a key point of interest for observers and analysts.
Exit Polls Present Mixed Projections
While TVK leaders have expressed optimism, most exit polls suggest a different outcome. Several surveys indicate that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance is likely to retain power in the state.
Some polling agencies have projected a limited performance for TVK, estimating that the party may secure only a handful of seats, ranging from zero to six in certain forecasts. These projections contrast sharply with the party’s internal expectations.
However, one notable exception is the Axis My India exit poll, which presents a significantly different scenario. According to this survey, TVK could emerge as a major contender, potentially winning between 98 and 120 seats. The same poll estimates the DMK-led alliance securing 92 to 100 seats, while the AIADMK-led alliance may win between 22 and 32 seats.
Awaiting Final Results
With contrasting predictions and heightened anticipation, attention is now focused on the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. The final results will determine whether TVK’s confidence translates into electoral success or aligns more closely with broader exit poll trends.
