Education – Kharge Demands Dharmendra Pradhan’s Exit as NEET Row Deepens Nationwide
Education –Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday stepped up his criticism of the Narendra Modi-led government, calling for the immediate removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. His remarks came as protests linked to the alleged NEET paper leak continued to draw attention across the country, with the opposition questioning the Centre’s response to the issue.
Kharge Accuses Government of Failing Students
In a post on X, Kharge alleged that the country’s education system has deteriorated under the current administration. He accused the government of responding harshly to students participating in demonstrations instead of addressing their concerns.
The Congress leader claimed that security forces used excessive measures against young protesters, including lathi charges and other forceful methods. He argued that such actions were unacceptable and urged the government to treat protesting students with greater sensitivity.
Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, Kharge said the government should move beyond public statements and recognise the difficulties being faced by students and young people across the country. He appealed to the Prime Minister to understand the concerns of those demanding accountability over the examination controversy.
Three Demands Raised by the Congress
Kharge also outlined three key demands that he said reflected the expectations of the country’s youth. He called for the immediate dismissal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, an apology for the action taken against protesters, and justice for students who were allegedly subjected to punitive measures during the demonstrations.
In addition, the Congress president accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of exerting ideological influence over the education system, alleging that educational institutions had increasingly come under its control.
Concern Over Employment Opportunities
Alongside the education issue, Kharge highlighted employment challenges facing young Indians. Referring to data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), he claimed that youth unemployment remains a serious concern.
According to Kharge, the limited availability of private sector jobs, the shortage of permanent government vacancies, and the growing dependence on contractual employment have left many young people uncertain about their future. He questioned where students and job seekers should turn when opportunities remain scarce.
PM Modi Announces Fast-Track Courts
Amid the growing political debate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening action against those responsible for paper leaks. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the future of the country’s youth is a top priority and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those found guilty of compromising examination integrity.
He stated that fast-track courts would be established to ensure speedy trials and stringent punishment in paper leak cases. The Prime Minister also said that concerned departments and officials had been instructed to take all necessary steps to safeguard the interests of students and protect the credibility of public examinations.
Protests Continue Across Several Cities
The Prime Minister’s announcement comes at a time when demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak have intensified in Delhi and several other cities. Student groups and activists have continued to press the government for stronger accountability and systemic reforms.
As part of the ongoing campaign, activists have also announced a “Chalo Sansad” march, seeking to draw attention to their demands. The protests have become a major political issue, with both the ruling government and the opposition presenting contrasting approaches to addressing concerns surrounding examination security and the future of students.
