ElectionResults – Mahayuti Dominates Maharashtra Council Polls Despite Nashik Setback
ElectionResults – The ruling Mahayuti alliance delivered an emphatic performance in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, securing 16 of the 17 available seats and reinforcing its political strength across the state. The results, announced after vote counting on Monday, highlighted the alliance’s widespread support in local authority constituencies, although a surprise outcome in Nashik prevented a complete clean sweep.

Strong Showing Across Maharashtra
The biennial elections covered several Legislative Council constituencies represented by local authorities. Before voting took place on June 18 for the contested seats, six candidates backed by the Mahayuti alliance had already been elected without opposition. With the final results now declared, the alliance emerged as the dominant force in the polls.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accounted for the largest share of victories with 11 seats. The Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde secured three seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party faction headed by Ajit Pawar won two seats. One seat was claimed by an Independent candidate.
Nashik Contest Produces Major Surprise
The most closely watched battle unfolded in the Nashik Local Authorities constituency, where Independent candidate Gokul Gite stunned political observers by defeating Shiv Sena nominee Narendra Darade. Gite, considered a BJP rebel, remained in the contest despite efforts by senior leaders within the ruling alliance to persuade him to withdraw.
According to official figures, Gite secured 357 votes, while Darade received 248 votes, resulting in a winning margin of 109 votes. The outcome exposed internal disagreements within sections of the ruling coalition and denied Mahayuti a perfect electoral record.
Darade had campaigned extensively in the constituency and was viewed as a strong contender. However, the final result reflected the influence of local political dynamics and voter preferences that differed from broader alliance expectations.
Opposition Struggles to Gain Ground
While the Nashik result drew significant attention, the wider picture remained challenging for the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The opposition alliance failed to translate its local organizational presence into victories across most constituencies.
The results indicated that Mahayuti maintained a clear advantage in several regions, leaving the opposition with limited success in the council elections. Political analysts are likely to view the outcome as a significant boost for the ruling coalition ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
Candidates Elected Without Opposition
Six candidates had already secured their seats before polling due to the absence of challengers. These included Arun Lakhani from Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli and Prajakt Tanpure from Ahilyanagar, both representing the BJP.
Shiv Sena candidates Ravindra Phatak from Thane and Dushyant Chaturvedi from Yavatmal were also elected unopposed. The NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar saw Aniket Tatkare from Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg and Vikram Kakade from Pune win uncontested.
BJP Registers Comfortable Win in Bhandara-Gondia
In another notable contest, BJP candidate Avinash Bramhankar secured a decisive victory in the Bhandara-Gondia constituency. He defeated Congress-supported candidate Naresh Ishwarkar by 148 votes.
Bramhankar received 304 votes, while Ishwarkar secured 152, giving the BJP a comfortable margin in the constituency and contributing to the party’s overall strong performance across the state.
List of Successful Candidates
Among the winners were Suhas Shirsat (Jalna), Dhairyasheel Kadam (Sangli-Satara), Rajendra Raut (Solapur), Basavaraj Patil (Dharashiv-Latur-Beed), Dr Rajeev Potdar (Nagpur), Nandkishore Mahajan (Jalgaon), Pravin Pote (Amravati), Amar Rajurkar (Nanded), and Sayeed Khan (Parbhani-Hingoli). Their victories further strengthened the ruling alliance’s presence in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
