Election Results – Dharmendra Pradhan Criticises Mamata Banerjee Over Bengal Mandate
Election Results – Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of failing to respect the democratic verdict delivered by voters in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Pradhan, in a statement shared on social media platform X, alleged that democratic values in the state were under pressure and claimed the electoral mandate was not being accepted in its true spirit. According to him, the situation raised concerns about whether political authority was being exercised responsibly.
BJP Questions State Leadership’s Response
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader stated that the people of West Bengal had delivered a clear verdict through the ballot box, but the response from the ruling Trinamool Congress reflected unwillingness to acknowledge the outcome. He argued that public mandates in a democracy cannot be selectively interpreted or ignored after elections are completed.
Pradhan further claimed that the ongoing political reaction from the state leadership risked weakening public trust in constitutional institutions. He said agencies responsible for conducting free and fair elections, including the Election Commission and security personnel, should not be targeted during political disagreements.
Allegations of Political Intimidation Raised
Continuing his criticism, the Union minister alleged that West Bengal’s political environment had for years been influenced by fear and pressure tactics. He said the latest election result represented a demand from citizens for transparency and accountability in governance.
According to Pradhan, dismissing or questioning the public verdict without substantial evidence could damage democratic credibility. He also remarked that constitutional systems function on accountability and respect for electoral outcomes, regardless of political differences.
Mamata Banerjee Rejects Calls for Resignation
The political confrontation intensified after Mamata Banerjee refused to step down following the Assembly election defeat. The BJP secured a decisive majority by winning 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, bringing an end to the Trinamool Congress government’s uninterrupted 15-year tenure in the state.
Despite the BJP’s victory, Banerjee maintained that the election outcome did not reflect the genuine will of the people. She alleged there were major irregularities during the counting process and accused authorities of mishandling vote tabulation in several constituencies.
TMC Alleges Irregularities in Counting Process
Addressing reporters, the Trinamool Congress chief claimed that the results in nearly 100 Assembly seats were affected by what she described as manipulated counting procedures. She alleged that the counting process was intentionally delayed in certain areas to create confusion and weaken the morale of her party workers.
Banerjee insisted that the defeat was the result of a larger conspiracy rather than a legitimate public mandate. She also stated that there was no reason for her resignation under the present circumstances and asserted that any constitutional process would have to follow established legal norms.
Political Tensions Continue After Historic Result
The election outcome has triggered a major political shift in West Bengal, with the BJP preparing to form the next government in the state for the first time. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress leadership continues to question the credibility of the electoral process, setting the stage for a prolonged political confrontation.
Political observers believe the dispute over the election result could intensify debate around institutional trust, electoral transparency and democratic accountability in the coming days.
