Education – The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) has approached the Delhi Police, calling for an inquiry into recent allegations involving Vice-Chancellor Santishree Pandit. The appeal follows media reports highlighting complaints that accuse the university head of making remarks perceived as insensitive towards Dalit communities.
Students’ Union Flags Serious Concerns
In its formal communication to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, the students’ body referred to a podcast discussion in which the Vice-Chancellor was reportedly heard making statements related to caste issues. According to the complaints cited by JNUSU, the remarks included references suggesting that sections of society adopt a “victimhood” stance and portray oppression in a way described as “imaginary.”
The union argued that such statements, if accurately reported, could be deeply hurtful and dismissive of the lived realities faced by marginalized communities. It emphasized that the matter goes beyond individual opinion and could influence the broader campus atmosphere.
Allegations Highlight Impact on Marginalised Communities
Those who filed the complaints have claimed that the comments undermine genuine experiences of discrimination.
