Focus on Technology-Driven Policing

Speaking at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy in Narsingarh, the Chief Minister said police personnel must be prepared to handle emerging challenges such as cybercrime and offences targeting women and children. He underlined that law enforcement agencies can no longer function effectively without the support of advanced technology and updated training systems.

Saha, who also oversees the Home Department, urged officers to maintain honesty, discipline and dedication while carrying out their duties. He said police personnel should combine strict law enforcement with a humane and compassionate attitude when interacting with the public.

Training Completed for Newly Recruited Constables

A total of 476 recruit constables from the 91st and 92nd batches completed their training at the academy, including 318 women personnel. According to the Chief Minister, the recruits underwent nearly 11 months of intensive preparation covering crowd management, disaster response, traffic regulation, mob control and handling unlawful activities.

The programme was organised as part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen policing standards and improve operational readiness across Tripura.

Government Plans More Police Recruitment

During the event, Saha announced that recruitment for 218 Sub-Inspectors in Tripura Police would begin soon. He also confirmed that approval has already been granted for the appointment of 916 additional constables, with the recruitment process expected to start shortly.

Referring to previous recruitment drives, the Chief Minister said that appointment letters had been distributed to 975 candidates in May last year. Out of them, 476 have now completed their formal police training successfully.

Women’s Participation in Police Force Increasing

The Chief Minister highlighted the rising number of women joining the police department in Tripura. He said the growing participation of women reflects expanding opportunities and stronger representation of women in the state’s law enforcement structure.

Officials believe the increasing presence of women personnel will help improve public engagement and strengthen the police response in cases involving women and children.

Importance of New Criminal Laws Highlighted

Saha also asked newly inducted personnel to become thoroughly familiar with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaced several colonial-era criminal laws from July 1, 2024. He said understanding the updated legal framework would play a key role in improving policing standards and ensuring effective implementation of justice.

According to him, adapting to the new legal system is essential for modern policing and for addressing changing crime patterns in the country.

Tripura Police Aiming for Greater Professional Standards

The Chief Minister noted that the Tripura Police has a legacy spanning nearly 150 years. He encouraged senior officers and fresh recruits to work together to transform the force into one of the country’s most professional and efficient policing organisations.

Director General of Police Anurag also addressed the ceremony and said the recruits received extensive practical and theoretical instruction during their training period. The curriculum included investigation techniques, disaster management, crowd control, weapon handling and maintaining public order.

Jayanta Chakraborty, Principal of the KTD Singh Police Training Academy, was also present during the passing-out parade and addressed the gathering.
