Crowdfunding – Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has clarified that his studies in the United States were financed through a scholarship awarded by Boston University along with an education loan, dismissing allegations that his overseas education was supported by undisclosed family wealth. His statement came shortly after an RTI activist called for an official inquiry into the financial background of his family.
Dipke Explains Source of Educational Expenses
During an interview on a senior journalist’s YouTube channel, Dipke said his higher education was made possible through academic assistance and borrowed funds rather than personal family resources. He stated that Boston University granted him a scholarship and that he also secured an education loan, which he continues to repay. According to Dipke, the claims suggesting that his education was funded through unexplained wealth are inaccurate.
RTI Activist Seeks Investigation Into Family Finances
The clarification follows a complaint filed by Surat-based RTI activist Amit Tiwari with several authorities, including the Maharashtra government. Tiwari requested an investigation into the financial affairs of Dipke’s father, Bhagwanrao Dipke, who previously served as a junior engineer with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). In his representation, Tiwari questioned how a retired government employee, reportedly earning between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000 per month during service, could have financed the overseas education of his children.
Party Plans to Expand Through Crowdfunding
Speaking about the future of the Cockroach Janta Party, Dipke said the organization intends to depend on crowdfunding for its activities and campaigns. He assured supporters that the party would maintain transparency in collecting and using public contributions. According to him, every effort would be made to ensure accountability in financial matters as the party grows.
Claims Regarding Anti-NEET Protest Support
Dipke also discussed the anti-NEET paper leak protests, saying that the movement received considerable backing from ordinary citizens. He claimed that many people voluntarily provided food, drinking water, and other essential supplies to demonstrators. In addition, he alleged that some personnel from the Delhi Police privately expressed sympathy for the agitation because their own children were preparing for the NEET examination. These remarks reflect his view that the movement drew support from a broad section of society.
Funding Questions Intensify After Legal Aid Announcement
Public attention on the party’s finances increased after senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal announced a legal assistance fund of Rs 1 crore for individuals arrested during the anti-NEET paper leak protests. The announcement prompted additional questions about the funding and management of financial support linked to the protest movement.
Complaints Sent to Multiple Authorities
Apart from seeking an inquiry into the Dipke family’s financial background, Amit Tiwari has approached the Election Commission of India regarding the legal status of the Cockroach Janta Party. He has also requested scrutiny of the legal aid fund announced by Kapil Sibal. In a separate communication, Tiwari wrote to the Central GST authorities seeking clarification on the possible tax implications related to the proposed legal assistance fund.
Party Rejects Allegations as Politically Motivated
Responding to the complaints, CJP spokesperson Vaishnavi Gaur defended the party and its founder. She alleged that the RTI activist was unfairly focusing on Abhijeet Dipke while ignoring similar issues involving others. Gaur described the complaints as politically motivated and maintained that the party remained committed to transparency in its financial dealings. As of now, the authorities concerned have not publicly announced the outcome of the complaints or whether any formal investigation has been initiated.
