CrimeControl – Delhi Police Conducts Extensive Night Operation in Burari Area
CrimeControl – In a determined effort to curb unlawful activities, Delhi Police carried out a large-scale search and surveillance operation in the Burari locality of North Delhi. The late-evening exercise, which extended for nearly five hours on April 28, resulted in several arrests and the recovery of illegal weapons, unlicensed liquor, and suspicious vehicles, according to officials.

Coordinated Action Led by Senior Officials
The operation was planned under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Raja Banthia, with Additional DCP-I Ravinandan B.M. overseeing its execution. The primary objective was to increase police presence, strengthen night patrols, and conduct surprise inspections in areas identified as sensitive. Authorities aimed to discourage criminal behavior through visible enforcement and swift action.
The field operation was supervised by ACP Shashikant Gaur along with Burari Station House Officer Inspector Girish Chandra Raturi. Nearly 150 personnel, including around 20 women officers, participated in the coordinated effort. Officers were deployed from multiple police stations and units within the North District to ensure wide coverage.
Strategic Deployment Across the Locality
To carry out the operation efficiently, 26 separate teams were formed. These included dedicated search units, patrolling teams, picket squads, and arrest teams. Key entry and exit points were secured using temporary checkpoints, effectively restricting movement and preventing suspects from fleeing the area.
Simultaneous patrolling and targeted searches were conducted throughout Burari. Officers monitored suspicious activity and verified individuals moving through the locality during the late hours. The structured approach allowed the police to cover multiple areas at once, increasing the operation’s effectiveness.
Arrests and Seizures Under Arms Act
During the drive, five individuals were taken into custody under provisions of the Arms Act. Police recovered one locally made firearm and four knives from their possession. Officials indicated that the suspects were allegedly preparing to engage in criminal acts. Separate cases have been registered against each of the accused at Burari Police Station.
Crackdown on Illegal Liquor Trade
In a parallel enforcement effort, three individuals were apprehended for their alleged role in distributing and selling illicit alcohol. Authorities seized approximately 650 quarters of unauthorized liquor during the operation. Cases have been registered under the relevant sections of the Excise Act.
Vehicle Seizures and Preventive Measures
The operation also focused on traffic and public order violations. A total of 19 two-wheelers were seized due to missing registration details or lack of valid ownership documents. Additionally, 118 individuals were detained for identity verification as part of routine checks.
Police also took action against one individual for consuming alcohol in a public place. Preventive measures were applied to four other persons under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, aimed at maintaining peace and preventing potential disturbances.
Visible Impact on Local Security
Officials stated that the presence of a large number of uniformed personnel across the area had a noticeable effect. Residents observed increased vigilance, while authorities believe the operation sent a clear signal to repeat offenders and organized groups involved in illegal activities.
A senior officer noted that such sustained enforcement drives not only act as a deterrent but also build public confidence in law enforcement agencies. The police emphasized that consistent monitoring and proactive interventions remain key to maintaining order.
Continued Focus on Crime Prevention
Delhi Police has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting similar targeted operations in different parts of the city. Officials highlighted that strategic enforcement actions, combined with community cooperation, play a crucial role in ensuring long-term safety.
Authorities plan to continue enhancing surveillance, strengthening patrolling systems, and acting swiftly on intelligence inputs to prevent crime across the national capital.
