Crime – Night Shift Chef Arrested for House Theft in Delhi
Crime – A 22-year-old hotel employee working overnight shifts has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a residence in southwest Delhi and stealing valuables using a master key technique.

A young chef employed at a luxury hotel has been taken into custody by Delhi Police in connection with a house burglary in the RK Puram area. The accused, aged 22, is alleged to have used a specially designed key to unlock Chinese-style door locks and carry out the theft while the homeowners were away.
Complaint Filed After Family Returns from Wedding
The incident came to light following a formal complaint lodged on February 18. The homeowner reported that upon returning from Rajasthan, where the family had attended a wedding, they discovered a significant theft. Cash amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh along with gold and silver jewellery had been taken from their residence. The burglary appeared to have occurred during their absence, prompting immediate police involvement.
CCTV Footage Provides Key Evidence
During the investigation, officers examined footage from surveillance cameras installed in the neighborhood. The recordings showed an individual entering the premises after unlocking the gate. Roughly thirty minutes later, the same person was seen leaving the property carrying items believed to be stolen. He then fled the area on a scooter. Authorities traced the route taken by the vehicle to identify potential leads.
Suspect Identified and Questioned
Police eventually identified the suspect as Nilesh, a resident of KD Colony. He was summoned for questioning based on the evidence gathered. Initially, he denied any role in the incident, citing his night shift duties at the hotel as proof of his absence during the time of the crime. However, as questioning continued, inconsistencies in his statements emerged.
Confession Reveals Details of the Crime
Following sustained interrogation, Nilesh admitted to committing the burglary. Investigators confirmed that he had left his workplace during duty hours to carry out the theft. He reportedly used a master key method to gain access to the locked house without causing visible damage, which made the crime difficult to detect immediately.
Recovery of Stolen Items
Further investigation led police to recover the stolen jewellery. The accused disclosed that he had hidden the valuables inside a scooter parked at his workplace. Authorities seized both the scooter and the recovered items as part of the evidence. Efforts are underway to return the recovered property to its rightful owner after due legal procedures.
Link to Other Attempted Burglaries
During questioning, the accused also revealed involvement in two additional attempted burglaries in the Ambedkar Basti area. According to police, he used the same method in those cases but failed to find anything valuable to steal. These admissions are now part of the ongoing investigation as officers verify the details.
Police Continue Investigation
Officials stated that the case highlights the importance of neighborhood surveillance and timely reporting. The use of advanced lock-picking methods has raised concerns about residential security, especially when homes are left unattended for extended periods. Police are continuing to investigate whether the accused acted alone or had any accomplices.
Authorities have also advised residents to take precautionary measures, including securing doors with upgraded locking systems and informing neighbors when leaving town for longer durations.
