Crime – Key Suspect Arrested in Madhya Pradesh Extortion Threat Network Case
Crime – Police have detained a crucial suspect believed to be the final missing connection in a string of extortion threats targeting affluent business owners in Madhya Pradesh. The threats were allegedly issued under the name of Harry Boxer, an overseas operative linked to a notorious criminal network. With this arrest, authorities say the total number of individuals taken into custody across related cases in the state has reached 28.

Arrest Made in Rajasthan After Manhunt
The latest breakthrough came when Rajasthan Police apprehended 21-year-old Durgesh Soni in Bikaner district. Soni, who had been evading law enforcement, was already wanted in connection with a 2023 case involving charges of murder, attempted murder, and violations under the Arms Act. Officials confirmed that he was taken into custody from his home district earlier this week following sustained tracking efforts.
Link to High-Value Extortion Threat
Investigators have also connected Soni to a major extortion threat involving a demand of Rs 10 crore made to a businessman in Ashoknagar district in March 2026. Authorities believe the threat was issued in the name of the same criminal network, indicating a coordinated effort to target wealthy individuals across regions.
According to senior police officials, Soni played a significant role in executing the plan. His arrest is being viewed as a critical step in piecing together the operational structure of the group involved in these threats.
Police Identify Key Role in Four-Member Group
Officials revealed that Soni was part of a four-member team allegedly responsible for targeting the Ashoknagar-based businessman. The group is said to have acted under instructions from Hari Chand Jaat, also known as Harry Boxer.
Three other members of the group—Pradip Shukla, JP Dara, and Manish Jangid—had already been arrested earlier during the investigation. Soni was the only remaining suspect who had managed to avoid capture until now.
Authorities noted that three of the accused, including Soni, hail from Rajasthan, which is also believed to be the base of Harry Boxer. The fourth accused, Pradip Shukla, is from Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
Coordination Between States for Further Investigation
Senior officers indicated that further questioning of Soni will be conducted after Rajasthan Police complete their interrogation in the pending criminal cases against him. Following that, Madhya Pradesh Police are expected to seek custody for detailed investigation into the extortion network.
Officials leading the special investigation team stated that Soni’s involvement could provide deeper insights into how the group operated, including communication channels and planning methods used to intimidate business targets.
Wider Crackdown on Extortion Network
The investigation has already resulted in multiple arrests across different districts. In cases linked to threats issued in the name of Harry Boxer in Ashoknagar and Bhopal, eight individuals have been arrested so far.
In a separate but similar case involving a cotton trader in Khargone district, police have detained 20 suspects. Combined, these actions have led to a total of 28 arrests across Madhya Pradesh in connection with organized extortion attempts.
Authorities Continue Probe Into Network
Police officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests could follow as additional leads emerge. Efforts are focused on dismantling the broader network and preventing further threats to business communities.
The case highlights increasing concerns over organized crime networks operating across state lines and using intimidation tactics to extract money from business owners.
