Ajmal Calls Fake Currency a Serious Security Concern

All India United Democratic Front chief and Binnakandi MLA Badruddin Ajmal said the spread of counterfeit currency posed a major challenge and should be treated with the utmost seriousness. Speaking on Thursday, he said the issue raised questions about the source of the forged notes and the people responsible for moving them into circulation.

Ajmal said the counterfeit currency trade could harm ordinary people who unknowingly accept fake notes during daily transactions. He also linked the matter to broader concerns around organised crime and alleged that the government had failed to prevent such networks from operating.

The AIUDF legislator urged authorities to act decisively against people involved in both narcotics trafficking and fake currency operations. He said police action against criminal networks should be strengthened to curb activities that threaten public safety and the financial system.

Minister Seeks Public Support for Police

Assam minister Biswajit Daimary said cases involving counterfeit currency were not limited to the state and required cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies. He appealed to people to share credible information if they were aware of individuals or groups involved in such illegal activities.

Daimary said police would take appropriate action on inputs received from the public. He also acknowledged the role of residents who assist investigators by reporting suspicious activity, adding that community cooperation can help agencies identify criminal networks more quickly.

The minister’s remarks came as police continued to investigate the Guwahati seizure and gather details about the suspected supply chain behind the fake notes.

BJP MLA Alleges Printing Activity in Bongalmora

BJP MLA Manab Deka alleged that counterfeit notes were being printed using advanced equipment in Bongalmora, an area within his constituency. He claimed that the notes were being prepared to deceive unsuspecting members of the public before being circulated in local markets.

According to Deka, police had launched a crackdown on the alleged operation and arrested nine people in connection with the case a few days earlier. His claims are part of the wider political discussion surrounding the Guwahati fake currency seizure and the suspected network linked to it.

Police have not publicly disclosed all details related to the alleged printing operation, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police Examine Wider Network and Possible Links

The latest developments follow a major recovery of counterfeit Indian currency notes in Guwahati, where Assam Police said they had busted an alleged fake currency racket. The seizure has prompted investigators to look beyond the immediate arrests and identify others who may have played a role in producing, transporting or circulating the forged notes.

Officials are examining whether the network had links outside Assam, including possible interstate or cross-border connections. Investigators are also working to establish where the counterfeit currency originated and how it reached markets and individuals.

Police said further inquiries were under way to trace the complete chain of activity and identify all those associated with the alleged racket. The case has renewed attention on the risks posed by counterfeit currency, particularly for small traders, workers and consumers who may struggle to distinguish forged notes from genuine ones
