Significant Progress in Enumeration Work

Officials reported that house listing activities have already been completed in the New Delhi district, which includes areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Delhi Cantonment Board. The survey forms an important part of preparations for Census 2027 and aims to create an updated record of residential structures and households.

As per the latest figures, a total of 24,57,224 households have been documented across the 12 MCD districts. The survey has covered an estimated population of around 1.05 crore people, reflecting substantial progress in the data-gathering process.

Timeline of the Ongoing Exercise

The house listing operation in MCD-administered areas began on May 16 and is scheduled to continue until June 14. Authorities have deployed a large network of field personnel to ensure the exercise is completed within the planned timeframe.

More than 45,000 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) have been created for the survey. Each block generally includes between 180 and 200 households, allowing enumerators to systematically collect information from residents across different localities of the capital.

New Delhi District Completes Survey

The New Delhi district completed its house listing phase earlier than the MCD districts. The operation in NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board areas was conducted between April 16 and May 15.

During this period, officials recorded approximately 63,000 households and around 2.5 lakh residents. The completion of work in these areas marks an important milestone in the overall Census 2027 preparation process.

Information Being Collected

The Central Government has notified a questionnaire containing 33 items for the house listing exercise. Enumerators are collecting details that help create a comprehensive profile of housing conditions and household characteristics.

Among the information being gathered are the complete address of the residence, the primary materials used in the construction of floors, walls and roofs, the total number of people living in the household, and the name of the head of the family. These details are expected to provide valuable insights into housing patterns and demographic distribution across the national capital.

Importance of the Exercise

Officials said the house listing phase serves as the foundation for the larger Census 2027 process. Accurate data collected during this stage helps authorities prepare household records and improve the efficiency of subsequent population enumeration activities.

With the exercise continuing across Delhi’s remaining districts, authorities expect further progress in the coming weeks as teams work to complete the survey before the scheduled deadline.
