Bangladesh – Hindu Law Student and Temple Priest Allegedly Kidnapped, Assaulted in Dhaka
Bangladesh –A Hindu law student who also performs religious duties as a temple priest was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and later abandoned on a street in Bangladesh’s capital. The incident has raised concerns after reports indicated that the victim was held against his will, subjected to violence, and released only after money was reportedly transferred to the suspected abductors.

Victim Found Injured After Overnight Ordeal
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Subhash Deuri, a law student at Jagannath University. According to available reports, he left his rented residence in Dhaka late on Monday night before allegedly being intercepted by a group of unidentified individuals. The men are said to have demanded money and later kept him captive for several hours.
Early on Tuesday morning, Deuri was discovered unconscious in the Old Dhaka area. Friends who located him immediately arranged for his transportation to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Hospital Officials Confirm Critical Admission
Mohammad Faruk, who heads the police outpost at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that Deuri was brought to the hospital’s emergency department at approximately 7 a.m. local time. Medical staff admitted him in critical condition and began treatment soon after his arrival.
As of Tuesday, no formal police complaint had been registered regarding the alleged kidnapping and assault, according to available information.
Family and Roommate Describe Ransom Calls
Originally from Magura district in Bangladesh’s Khulna division, Deuri had been living in a rented apartment in Dhaka with his roommate, Durjoy Saha.
Saha said Deuri left their accommodation around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. Some time later, he received a phone call from Deuri’s mobile number requesting financial assistance. However, he was unable to send any money because he did not have sufficient funds at the time.
The alleged kidnappers also reportedly contacted Deuri’s family. His sister, Jaya, said she received a call around 1 a.m. on Tuesday from her brother’s phone. During the conversation, an unidentified man allegedly demanded 30,000 Bangladeshi Taka as ransom for his release.
Money Reportedly Transferred Before Release
According to reports, the individuals behind the alleged kidnapping provided bank account details for the payment. After a transfer of 26,000 Bangladeshi Taka was reportedly completed, Deuri was allegedly left on a roadside in Old Dhaka.
Following his rescue, Deuri reportedly informed his roommate that he had endured both physical abuse and severe mental harassment during the period of captivity.
Friends who assisted in taking him to the hospital also said that his mobile phone and wallet were missing when he was found, suggesting that personal belongings may have been taken during the incident.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping or identified those responsible. Investigators are expected to examine the reported ransom calls, financial transaction details, and other available evidence as part of the inquiry.
At present, officials have not announced any arrests or disclosed a possible motive behind the alleged abduction and assault. The investigation is continuing as law enforcement authorities work to establish the full sequence of events.
