Police said that four people, including two women, were apprehended in the Cachar district’s Katigorah village after it was discovered that they had illegally crossed the international boundary and entered Indian territory.

According to the police, they were found in possession of fraudulent papers, including refugee cards.

The cops arrested the four individuals.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that Assam would not be permitted to serve as a haven for undocumented foreign nationals and that the state government would step up its efforts to combat illegal infiltration.

In order to expel unlawful Bangladeshi nationals, the state conducted a massive “push-back” operation in 2025, according to Chief Minister Sarma, and the campaign would be intensified in the next year.

“We shall be brutal in this endeavor and push back even more in 2026. You are not a native of Assam,” he said.

The Chief Minister has consistently argued that Assam’s demographic balance, social peace, and internal security are seriously threatened by illegal infiltration.

According to him, the state administration is still dedicated to upholding the law and protecting the rights of indigenous groups.

Infiltration has long been a significant problem for Assam, especially in border regions, according to CM Sarma, who also claimed that prior administrations failed to take effective action to address the problem.

Stronger enforcement on the ground has been attributed by him to recent administrative actions, increased border monitoring, and better cooperation between the state police and central security forces.

The Chief Minister also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to implementing the Assam Accord in its entirety, including the clauses pertaining to the identification, removal, and expulsion of undocumented foreign nationals.

He emphasized that his government continues to place a high premium on preserving Assam’s demographic integrity, land rights, and cultural identity.
