AIMIM Announces Entry Into Rajasthan’s Local Elections
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), headed by Asaduddin Owaisi, has confirmed that it will participate in the forthcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections in Rajasthan. The announcement represents the party’s first coordinated attempt to compete in local governance elections across the state, where political contests have long been dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
The decision signals AIMIM’s intention to expand its political presence beyond its traditional areas of influence by contesting elections at the grassroots level. The party plans to nominate official candidates while also extending support to select independent contestants in various districts and wards.
Proposal Cleared by Party Leadership
According to sources within the party, the move followed a proposal submitted by Rajasthan state president Jamil Khan to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. After reviewing the proposal, Owaisi approved the plan and directed the state unit to prepare for the elections with a strong organisational strategy.
Party leaders said preparations are already underway, with office-bearers and volunteers stepping up coordination across different regions of Rajasthan. The focus is on building an effective campaign that connects with local communities and addresses civic concerns.
Campaign to Focus on Grassroots Issues
During a virtual meeting with party workers, Jamil Khan outlined the roadmap for AIMIM’s campaign in the Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections. He said the party intends to raise issues directly affecting residents, including local development, civic infrastructure, and public welfare.
Khan stated that AIMIM wants to establish itself as a platform that speaks for citizens’ concerns while strengthening democratic participation at the local level. The party believes that focusing on everyday governance issues will help it connect with voters across different regions of the state.
Organisation Expansion and Public Outreach
To support its electoral plans, AIMIM has also begun strengthening its organisational network across Rajasthan. The leadership has prepared a strategy aimed at improving coordination between district units and expanding its presence in both urban and rural areas.
Party spokesperson Arif Mohammad said a large-scale public outreach campaign will be launched in the coming weeks. The initiative is expected to increase engagement with local communities while mobilising party workers ahead of the elections.
He added that candidate selection will prioritise individuals with strong public credibility, local influence, and active involvement in community issues. The party expects this approach to improve its visibility and competitiveness at the district and ward levels.

AIMIM’s announcement has generated discussion within Rajasthan’s political landscape, where electoral contests have traditionally revolved around the BJP and the Congress.
