LebanonConflict – Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon claimed at least six lives and left several others injured, according to Lebanese state media, as hostilities along the border continue despite an existing ceasefire arrangement.
Authorities in Lebanon said the overnight attack targeted a residential building in the town of Kfar Dounine, located in the country’s south and roughly 95 kilometres from Beirut. The strike reportedly occurred late Monday and caused significant destruction in the area. Emergency crews and local residents rushed to the scene shortly after the explosions were heard.
Casualties Reported After Overnight Strike
Lebanon’s National News Agency stated that six people were killed during the attack, while seven others sustained injuries. Medical teams transferred the wounded to hospitals in the coastal city of Tyre, where several victims were said to be receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Residents in nearby communities also reported heightened fear following the latest escalation. The attack added to growing concerns among civilians who have faced repeated cross-border violence over recent months.
Ceasefire Under Increasing Pressure
Although a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon was announced on April 17 in an effort to reduce military confrontations, clashes have continued across southern Lebanon. Israeli military operations in the region have intensified in recent weeks amid ongoing exchanges of fire involving Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group active along the border.
The continuing violence has raised doubts about the effectiveness of the truce, which was intended to ease tensions and prevent a broader regional conflict. Analysts monitoring the situation say both sides have continued military actions despite diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation.
Lebanese Officials Seek International Intervention
Lebanese political leaders recently called on the United States ambassador in Beirut to increase pressure on Israel to halt attacks during the ceasefire period. Officials in Lebanon argue that continued strikes are worsening humanitarian conditions and placing civilian lives at greater risk.
At the same time, Israeli authorities have maintained that their forces have also faced attacks from across the border. Israel has repeatedly stated that it will respond to any threats targeting its territory or military personnel.
Rising Human Cost of the Conflict
Health officials in Lebanon estimate that more than 2,800 people have been killed since the country became more deeply involved in the wider regional conflict earlier this year. Thousands more have reportedly been displaced from towns near the border due to ongoing military activity.
Infrastructure damage has also increased across parts of southern Lebanon, where residents continue to face disruptions to daily life, including power outages, road damage, and limited access to medical services.
Additional Strikes and Evacuation Orders
On Tuesday, Lebanese media reported further strikes near several southern towns. Meanwhile, the Israeli military issued evacuation instructions for residents in Sohmor, a town located in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley, signaling concerns over possible future operations in the area.
Israel’s military also confirmed over the weekend that one of its soldiers had died during fighting near the Lebanese border. According to official figures released by Israel, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of 18 soldiers and one civilian contractor on the Israeli side since the fighting began.
Despite international calls for restraint, the security situation along the Israel-Lebanon border remains highly unstable, with fears that renewed military escalation could deepen the humanitarian crisis across the region.
