Earthquake – Brazil Dispatches Rescue Teams to Support Quake-Hit Venezuela
Earthquake – Brazil has launched an emergency humanitarian response to assist Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes caused extensive destruction, with rescue operations, medical support, and relief supplies being sent to the neighboring country.

Brazil Announces Immediate Humanitarian Assistance
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has confirmed that his government will provide emergency assistance to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on Wednesday. The announcement came after Lula held a telephone conversation with Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, to discuss the situation and identify the most effective ways Brazil could contribute to ongoing relief efforts.
In a statement shared on social media, Lula expressed Brazil’s solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting communities affected by the disaster. He said the priority was to help rescue teams on the ground and provide essential humanitarian resources during the critical response phase.
Rescue Personnel and Equipment Set for Deployment
According to Brazilian authorities, a Brazilian Air Force KC-390 transport aircraft is scheduled to depart from Guarulhos International Airport on Friday carrying a specialized emergency response team.
The mission will include 36 firefighters, four technicians from Brazil’s National Civil Defence, and four experts from the National Telecommunications Agency. In addition to personnel, the aircraft will transport approximately nine tonnes of search-and-rescue equipment designed to assist teams working to locate and rescue people trapped beneath collapsed structures.
Officials said the equipment will strengthen ongoing operations in some of the hardest-hit areas, where damaged buildings and debris continue to present significant challenges for emergency responders.
Additional Relief Supplies to Arrive on Second Flight
Brazil has also planned a second humanitarian flight for Saturday as part of its continued support for Venezuela. This mission will carry materials required to establish a temporary field hospital, along with 100 solar-powered water purification units.
Medical supplies, surgical equipment, and essential medicines will also be included in the shipment to help local healthcare workers manage the increasing number of injured people requiring treatment.
Lula stated that Brazil would continue monitoring the evolving humanitarian situation and remain ready to provide further assistance whenever necessary to support relief and recovery efforts.
Venezuela Introduces Emergency Recovery Measures
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodriguez has announced several emergency measures aimed at accelerating rescue operations and rebuilding damaged communities.
According to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, the government has directed private companies to provide heavy machinery for clearing debris from affected areas. Authorities have also established a 200-million-USD emergency assistance fund and introduced special financial support through dedicated credit lines for businesses impacted by the earthquakes.
These initiatives are intended to help restore essential services while supporting residents and business owners dealing with widespread damage.
International Support Continues to Grow
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said the government is coordinating international assistance as countries from across the region and beyond continue offering humanitarian support.
The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela’s northern regions on Wednesday, causing severe destruction in La Guaira and significant structural damage throughout the Caracas metropolitan area.
Authorities have confirmed that at least 32 people lost their lives, while more than 700 others were injured. Rescue teams continue searching damaged buildings as governments and humanitarian organizations work together to deliver emergency aid and support recovery efforts.
