DefenseBudget – President Donald Trump announced plans to significantly increase the United States’ military budget next year, saying the additional investment is aimed at strengthening national security while supporting employment through domestic manufacturing. Speaking at the Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit on Wednesday (local time), Trump said the proposed rise in defense spending would also benefit American workers by expanding production within the country.
Record Military Funding Proposal
Addressing government officials and defense industry representatives, Trump said his administration had already committed a record USD 1 trillion to the US military and now intends to raise that figure to USD 1.5 trillion in the coming fiscal year. He urged senior officials, including War Secretary Pete, to move quickly on implementing the proposed increase, describing the investment as necessary to maintain the country’s military capabilities in an evolving global security environment.
Trump emphasized that the spending should not be viewed solely as an expense because much of the equipment and technology would be manufactured in the United States. According to him, increased production would create jobs, strengthen the domestic industrial base, and provide long-term economic benefits alongside military preparedness.
Focus on Domestic Manufacturing
During his address, the US President stressed that defense procurement would largely rely on American-made products. He argued that investing in local manufacturing helps support businesses, preserves skilled jobs, and keeps defense-related production within the country. Trump maintained that the economic impact of such investments should be considered alongside their role in enhancing national defense.
He also reflected on his previous tenure in office, stating that his administration had significantly expanded the strength of the US military during his first term and later relied on those capabilities during his second term.
Comments on Venezuela Operation
Trump also referred to the January 2026 US military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the removal and capture of President Nicolas Maduro. He repeated his claim that the mission lasted only 48 minutes, though he described it broadly as a one-day operation during his remarks.
According to Trump, revenues generated from Venezuelan oil obtained after the operation had already covered the financial cost of the military action many times over. He said the intervention had effectively paid for itself, claiming that the value recovered exceeded the operational expenses by more than fifty times.
Questions Over Iran Policy
The summit also included questions about the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran. When asked whether he had set a deadline for Tehran before authorizing strikes on civilian infrastructure, Trump declined to specify any timeline.
Instead, he said he preferred not to announce deadlines publicly, while adding that Iranian leaders understood the situation and should conduct themselves accordingly. His remarks came as concerns continue over the possibility of further escalation between Washington and Tehran.
Previous Warning to Tehran
Trump’s latest comments follow an interview with Fox News earlier this week in which he warned that the United States could expand military operations against Iran if diplomatic efforts fail. During that interview, he said power plants and bridges could become future targets unless Tehran returns to negotiations with Washington.
He also warned that Iran could face severe consequences if no agreement is reached, repeating his position that the US is prepared to intensify its military campaign if diplomatic talks do not resume. The statements have drawn international attention as regional tensions remain high and global leaders continue to monitor developments closely.
