DefenceDiplomacy – Rajnath Singh Honors Ho Chi Minh During Vietnam Visit
DefenceDiplomacy – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday paid tribute to Vietnam’s founding leader Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi during his official visit to the Southeast Asian nation. The ceremony coincided with the 136th birth anniversary of the late Vietnamese revolutionary leader, who continues to hold deep national significance in Vietnam.

Tribute at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
Rajnath Singh placed a wreath at the mausoleum in the presence of senior Vietnamese military officials. The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the 969th Regiment, who formally received the Indian defence minister before the tribute proceedings began at the memorial complex.
Sharing details of the visit on social media platform X, Singh praised Ho Chi Minh’s contribution to national independence and international solidarity. He stated that the Vietnamese leader’s ideals and leadership continue to influence generations across the world. He also highlighted the strong relationship between India and Vietnam, describing it as a partnership built on mutual trust, respect, and shared principles.
Focus on Bilateral Defence Engagement
The Indian defence minister is currently in Vietnam for high-level meetings aimed at expanding defence and strategic cooperation between the two countries. His visit forms part of a broader diplomatic effort by India to strengthen security partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region.
Rajnath Singh arrived in Hanoi on Monday as part of a two-nation tour that also includes South Korea. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, along with India’s Ambassador to Vietnam and senior officials from both nations.
Officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence and members of the Indian Embassy in Hanoi were also present during the reception at the airport.
Defence Talks Expected to Cover Key Security Areas
During his stay in Hanoi, Singh is expected to hold extensive discussions with his Vietnamese counterpart on several areas of defence collaboration. Talks are likely to focus on military exchanges, defence production, regional security challenges, and expanding cooperation in the defence industry.
The discussions come shortly after Vietnamese leader To Lam visited New Delhi, a development viewed as an important step in strengthening ties between the two nations. Diplomatic observers believe the recent exchanges reflect growing strategic alignment between India and Vietnam amid evolving regional security dynamics.
One of the major topics expected to feature during the meetings is the proposed supply of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system. India and Vietnam have reportedly been reviewing progress on a possible agreement related to the missile platform for some time. Although no official announcement has yet been made, the issue remains a significant part of bilateral defence discussions.
South Korea Visit Next on Agenda
After concluding the Vietnam leg of his journey, Rajnath Singh will travel to the Republic of Korea for the second phase of his diplomatic tour. In Seoul, the Indian minister is expected to engage in talks centred on defence manufacturing, military technology cooperation, and industrial partnerships.
He is scheduled to meet South Korean Minister of National Defence Ahn Gyu-back to review existing defence cooperation and identify new opportunities for collaboration. The two sides are also expected to exchange views on regional and international developments of common concern.
In addition, Singh will meet Defence Acquisition Program Administration Minister Lee Yong-cheol and participate in the India-Korea business roundtable discussions focused on defence industry cooperation and technology partnerships.
Indian War Memorial Inauguration Planned
As part of the South Korea visit, Rajnath Singh is also expected to attend the joint inauguration of the Indian War Memorial on May 21. The event will be held alongside South Korea’s Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon Oh-eul, marking another symbolic step in strengthening historical and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
