RealityShow – Lock Upp Returns With New Format and Fresh Line-Up
RealityShow – The upcoming season of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa is set to arrive with a significantly revamped concept, and producer Ekta Kapoor has clarified why actress Kangana Ranaut will not be associated with the new edition. According to Kapoor, the reality show’s structure, presentation, and overall vision have been completely redesigned, making it different from the version audiences saw in 2022.

Ekta Kapoor Explains Major Changes in the Show
Speaking during the launch of the new season, Ekta Kapoor said the creative team decided to rework nearly every aspect of the program. She explained that the makers wanted a fresh identity for the new installment and therefore moved away from several elements that defined the original edition.
Kapoor noted that the earlier jailor-and-host format no longer fits the new direction of the show. As a result, the production team chose not to retain previous roles, including the host and jailor positions that were central to the first season. She emphasized that preserving older elements could have reduced the impact of the show’s new presentation.
Kangana Ranaut Not Part of the New Chapter
Kangana Ranaut, who hosted the debut season of Lock Upp in 2022, will not be returning for the latest edition. While discussing the decision, Kapoor suggested that the extensive changes in format made it necessary to create an entirely fresh experience for viewers.
The first season gained attention for its unique premise, where contestants with controversial public images competed while living inside a prison-themed environment. Participants had to complete various challenges and reveal aspects of their personalities to win support from both the audience and the host.
Looking Back at the First Season
The original edition featured actor Karan Kundrra in the role of jailor throughout the season. Comedian and content creator Munawar Faruqui eventually emerged as the winner.
Contestants in the first season were required to perform tasks and compete for basic necessities while navigating intense interpersonal dynamics. The show’s combination of entertainment, competition, and personal revelations helped it attract significant viewer interest.
New Contestants and Updated Rules
The second season introduces a new set of rules and a revised gameplay structure. Fourteen contestants, referred to as inmates, will live inside a single lock-up environment for six weeks. Unlike traditional reality competitions, participants will need to earn an in-game currency by completing assigned tasks.
This currency will be essential for obtaining everyday necessities such as food, supplies, and special privileges inside the competition. The updated format aims to increase strategic decision-making and add a fresh layer of competition among contestants.
Among the contestants announced for the new season are television actor Ram Kapoor, popular actress Shivangi Joshi, and emerging entertainment personality Pamala Serena. Their inclusion is expected to bring a mix of experience, popularity, and diverse personalities to the show.
Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan Take Charge
With the departure of the previous hosting structure, actor Riteish Deshmukh and filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan have been introduced as the new jailers. Their presence marks another major change in the show’s evolution.
The upcoming season will stream exclusively on Netflix, expanding the show’s reach to a wider digital audience. The platform is expected to showcase the competition’s new format while maintaining the drama and entertainment that helped establish the franchise.
A Social Experiment With Entertainment at Its Core
Earlier, Ekta Kapoor described Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa as more than a conventional reality series. She characterized it as a social experiment that blends competition, human behavior, unexpected twists, and entertainment.
With a completely transformed structure, a new leadership team, and fresh contestants, the latest season aims to offer viewers a different experience while retaining the high-energy atmosphere associated with the franchise.
