Entertainment News – Johnny Lever’s Memorable Prank Left Anil Kapoor Speechless During Tezaab Shoot
Entertainment News – Veteran comedian and actor Johnny Lever once shared an amusing behind-the-scenes story involving Anil Kapoor, revealing how a harmless prank call during the filming of the classic movie “Tezaab” left the actor unexpectedly nervous.

A Light-Hearted Incident from a Film Set
During an appearance on “The Kapil Sharma Show”, Johnny Lever recalled one of his most memorable practical jokes. When asked whether he had ever played pranks over the phone, the celebrated comedian narrated an incident that took place while the cast and crew were working on the 1988 blockbuster “Tezaab”.
According to Lever, he decided to call Anil Kapoor while pretending to be veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha. Adopting the senior actor’s style of speaking, he greeted Kapoor warmly and began a casual conversation. He asked about his well-being, inquired about his whereabouts, and suggested meeting later in the evening after the day’s shooting schedule.
Anil Kapoor Believed the Call Was Genuine
Johnny Lever revealed that Anil Kapoor appeared convinced that he was speaking with Shatrughan Sinha. Throughout the conversation, Kapoor reportedly responded respectfully, repeatedly acknowledging the caller and agreeing to the discussion.
The comedian said Kapoor remained serious and attentive during the exchange, unaware that one of his colleagues was orchestrating the entire situation for fun. Watching the actor react so sincerely reportedly made it difficult for Lever to contain his laughter.
Truth Revealed at the End
After allowing the conversation to continue for some time, Johnny Lever finally disclosed his true identity. The revelation immediately ended the confusion, but not without a reaction from Kapoor.
Lever humorously shared that Anil Kapoor was not particularly pleased after discovering that the call had been a prank. What began as a respectful conversation quickly turned into a moment of surprise and mild frustration once the actor realized he had been speaking to his co-star rather than Shatrughan Sinha.
The Legacy of Tezaab
The prank story also brought renewed attention to “Tezaab”, one of Bollywood’s most successful films of the late 1980s. Directed by N. Chandra, the romantic drama featured Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in leading roles and played a major role in shaping their careers.
The film also included performances from several notable actors, including Anupam Kher, Chunky Panday, Aruna Irani, Suparna Anand, Kiran Kumar, Annu Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, and Tej Sapru. Its music was composed by the legendary duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, whose songs became widely popular across the country.
Released on November 11, 1988, “Tezaab” emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of that year and remains one of the most remembered productions of its era.
Busy Schedule Ahead for Anil Kapoor
While fans continue to enjoy stories from his past, Anil Kapoor remains active with several major projects. The actor is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming spy thriller “Alpha”, alongside Alia Bhatt, Bobby Deol, and Sharvari.
The film, directed by Shiv Rawail, is being promoted as the first female-led installment within the YRF Spy Universe. In addition, Kapoor is also set to appear in “King”, a highly anticipated project starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Siddharth Anand.
With both new releases and nostalgic stories making headlines, Anil Kapoor continues to remain a prominent figure in Indian cinema decades after his breakthrough success.
