Cinema – Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit has spoken candidly about the unequal standards women often face in matters of love and personal relationships, saying that deeply rooted social attitudes continue to judge women more harshly than men for similar choices.
According to the veteran actor, society has long viewed men and women differently when it comes to romance. She noted that men are frequently admired or praised for having multiple relationships, while women are often criticized and subjected to negative labels for behaving in the same way.
A Reflection on Long-Standing Social Attitudes
Speaking about the issue, Madhuri said these contrasting expectations are closely tied to a patriarchal social structure that has existed for generations. She explained that such thinking has become so common that many people accept it as normal without questioning the fairness behind it.
The actor emphasized that women are still often judged through a different lens, even in modern times. Directed by Suresh Triveni, Maa Behen is a black comedy thriller featuring Madhuri Dixit alongside Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga, and Ravi Kishan. The supporting cast includes Geetanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh, and Shardul Bhardwaj.
The narrative revolves around Rekha, a mother already dealing with the challenges of daily life when an unexpected crisis turns everything upside down. After discovering a dead body in her kitchen, she finds herself in a desperate situation.
With the help of her daughters—Jaya, known for her responsible nature, and Sushma, whose unpredictable personality often creates complications—the family attempts to conceal the truth. As suspicions grow and curious neighbors begin paying closer attention, the trio must navigate a series of increasingly complicated situations.
