Government Highlights Emerging Technology Initiatives
Speaking at a major technology gathering in New Delhi, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada said that programmes such as the India Semiconductor Mission and the IndiaAI Mission are generating fresh opportunities in research, manufacturing, and innovation. According to him, these initiatives are helping build a competitive ecosystem that supports both startups and established technology companies.
The minister emphasized that the government remains focused on creating a supportive business environment through forward-looking policies, simplified regulatory processes, and wider access to advanced technologies. He noted that these efforts are designed to encourage investment and accelerate innovation across multiple sectors.
STPI Tech Summit Brings Industry Stakeholders Together
The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, recently hosted the STPI Tech Summit 2026: India’s Next Leap. The event brought together policymakers, investors, venture capital firms, startup founders, and industry experts to discuss the future of India’s technology landscape.
During the summit, participants explored ways to strengthen innovation ecosystems and improve collaboration between government agencies, entrepreneurs, and private investors. Discussions focused on emerging technologies and the role they can play in driving economic growth and job creation.
STPI Seen as Key Driver of Innovation
Prasada stated that as India continues its progress toward becoming a global center for technology and innovation, organizations such as STPI will remain vital in supporting entrepreneurs and nurturing new ideas. He said the institution plays an important role in developing technology-focused businesses and helping Indian companies create solutions capable of competing in international markets.
The minister also underlined the importance of strengthening ecosystems around emerging technologies, which are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s future economic development.
Building on a Strong 35-Year Legacy
S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, reflected on STPI’s 35-year journey and stressed the need to identify new opportunities for future growth. He said the organization should continue leveraging its extensive experience while expanding support for emerging technology regions across the country.
Krishnan highlighted one of STPI’s greatest strengths: its ability to connect entrepreneurs with mentors, investors, and industry leaders. This collaborative network has helped create an environment where innovation can thrive and businesses can scale more effectively.
Expanding Technology Opportunities Beyond Major Cities
According to Krishnan, STPI has successfully established connections between developing regions and established technology hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. These linkages have enabled knowledge sharing, mentorship, funding access, and industry expertise to reach new innovation centers across India.
Arvind Kumar, Director General of STPI, said the organization has become an important pillar of India’s digital economy over the past three and a half decades. He noted that STPI now operates through 73 centers nationwide and has supported more than 1,700 startups.
Kumar added that the institution has played a significant role in boosting India’s information technology exports while extending technology-led growth beyond metropolitan areas. Its efforts have helped create new opportunities in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, contributing to a more inclusive and geographically balanced digital economy.
