Politics – Bihar Leadership Reaffirms Prohibition, Signals Tough Stance on Crime

Politics – A recent shift in Bihar’s political leadership has dashed hopes among sections of people who expected some easing of the state’s strict liquor ban. Despite speculation, the new administration has made it clear that there will be no change to the existing prohibition framework.

No Relief Expected in Liquor Ban Policy

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with his deputy Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, has firmly ruled out any reconsideration of the prohibition law. Their statements come at a time when informal channels had reportedly allowed limited access to alcohol, raising expectations of a possible policy review.

However, the leadership has chosen to maintain continuity with the earlier stance introduced under former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The prohibition policy, which was implemented with strong political backing, continues to be projected as a measure aimed at improving social conditions, particularly within households affected by alcohol abuse.

Interestingly, not all voices within the broader alliance are aligned on this issue. Union ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi and Chirag Paswan have publicly suggested that the law should be revisited to assess its effectiveness and unintended consequences. Despite these calls, the state government appears determined to retain the current framework without modification.

Viral Video Sparks Political Discussion

In a separate development, a video featuring Tej Pratap Yadav, son of veteran leader Lalu Prasad, has gained significant traction on social media. The clip shows him engaged in a video conversation with Dhirendra Shastri, widely known as Baba Bageshwar from Madhya Pradesh.

During the interaction, Tej Pratap is seen discussing his political future and seeking guidance. Shastri responds by indicating that such matters could be discussed in detail at a later time. The video has drawn attention largely because of Tej Pratap’s earlier criticism of the same religious figure. In the past, he had openly opposed Shastri’s visit to Bihar and questioned his public influence.

The renewed interaction has led to speculation and debate, particularly given Tej Pratap’s recent political journey. After being expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal in May 2025, he launched his own party, Janshakti Janata Dal. Observers view the viral clip as a reflection of evolving political strategies and alliances.

Government Signals Zero Tolerance on Crime

Alongside policy clarity on prohibition, the state government has also issued a strong message regarding law enforcement. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, while addressing a gathering in Gaya, warned criminals and organized groups against continuing unlawful activities.

Using culturally symbolic language, he suggested that those involved in crime would face swift and decisive consequences. His remarks emphasized a strict zero-tolerance approach, urging law enforcement agencies to act firmly and without delay.

The administration’s stance appears to have translated into action on the ground. Police operations in recent days have intensified, with reports indicating multiple encounters. Within a short span of time, at least two individuals accused of criminal activities were killed in separate incidents.

Officials maintain that these actions are part of a broader effort to strengthen public safety and deter organized crime. The government has also directed police personnel to ensure that enforcement measures are both effective and consistent across districts.

A Period of Policy Continuity and Enforcement Focus

Taken together, these developments suggest that Bihar’s current leadership is prioritizing stability in policy and firmness in governance. Whether it is maintaining the prohibition law despite differing opinions or adopting a strong posture on law and order, the administration appears focused on projecting control and consistency.

While debates around prohibition and political alignments continue, the immediate direction of governance remains clear: no policy reversals on key issues and a heightened emphasis on enforcement.
