EducationNews – Teacher Survives Armed Roadside Attack After Helmet Stops Bullet

EducationNews – A government school teacher narrowly escaped a fatal attack in Bihar’s Jamui district after a bullet aimed at his head was deflected by the helmet he was wearing. The incident took place on Friday morning when unidentified armed men allegedly intercepted him on a rural road and opened fire. The teacher sustained injuries during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment after being referred to Patna for specialized care.

Teacher survives roadside shooting

Attack Reported on Route to Railway Station

The victim has been identified as Gautam Kumar Das, a resident of Matiya village in the Lakshmipur police station area. He comes from a well-known local family. His father, Mahesh Ravidas, previously served as the village Mukhiya, while his mother, Mohini Devi, currently holds the position.

According to local officials, Das is employed as a teacher at a government school located in Kajra Panchayat of Lakhisarai district. On the day of the incident, he had left his home early in the morning and was traveling by motorcycle toward Malaypur railway station. From there, he planned to board a train to reach his workplace.

Suspects Allegedly Followed the Teacher

Preliminary information suggests that three individuals riding a motorcycle began following Das while he was passing through the Bishanpur area. Witness accounts and the victim’s statement indicate that the suspects were wearing masks, making identification difficult.

As the teacher continued his journey, the motorcycle carrying the suspects reportedly overtook him. The attackers then forced him to stop his vehicle on the roadside. Moments later, one of the assailants allegedly pointed a firearm at him and fired at close range.

Helmet Prevented a Potential Tragedy

Describing the incident, Das said the attackers had been trailing him for some distance before blocking his path. He stated that the first shot was directed at his head. However, the helmet he was wearing absorbed the impact, preventing what could have been a fatal injury.

The force of the bullet reportedly knocked the helmet off his head. Shortly afterward, another shot was fired, striking him near his right shoulder. Despite being injured and under extreme stress, Das managed to regain his composure.

He recalled picking up the helmet, putting it back on, and running toward the village in an effort to escape. His quick reaction is believed to have helped save his life.

Police Reach the Scene Quickly

After the shooting, the attackers fled the area before they could be apprehended. Police personnel who were conducting patrol duty nearby received information about the incident and reached the location without significant delay.

Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar and other officers assisted the injured teacher and arranged for his transportation to a medical facility. Authorities have begun collecting evidence and speaking with local residents as part of the investigation.

Medical Treatment and Investigation Underway

Das was initially taken to a private clinic in Jamui, where doctors provided emergency treatment. Given the seriousness of his shoulder injury and the circumstances of the attack, medical professionals later referred him to Patna for advanced care.

Police officials are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify those responsible. Security agencies are reviewing available leads and examining all possible angles related to the case.

The incident has drawn attention in the region, particularly because the victim survived a close-range gun attack largely due to the protection provided by his helmet. Authorities have assured that efforts are underway to trace the suspects and bring them before the law
