BiharPolitics – Patna Residence Reallocation Sparks Fresh Political Debate

BiharPolitics – A fresh political development has emerged in Bihar after former Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi asked the remaining security personnel stationed outside their official residence at 10 Circular Road in Patna to leave. The move came shortly after the state government revised their security arrangements and withdrew the Z-plus category protection previously provided to the veteran leaders.

Government Orders Vacating of Official Residence

The latest action follows a directive issued by the Bihar government asking Rabri Devi to vacate the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road. According to the official communication, the residence has now been assigned to Bihar minister Nand Kishore Ram. Authorities stated that Rabri Devi had already been allotted another government accommodation on Hardinge Road in her capacity as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, but the transfer to the alternative residence had not yet taken place.

Chief Minister Raises Issue of Official Accommodation

Speaking during a public programme in Sheikhpura, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary commented on the broader issue of government residences being retained by former office-bearers after their tenure ends. He said that official residences belong to the public and should not be viewed as personal assets. Referring to his own experience, Chaudhary stated that he vacated government accommodation within a day after the end of his previous tenure.

The Chief Minister also stressed that government properties are intended solely for official responsibilities and should be handed back once those responsibilities conclude.

New Allotment for State Minister

The bungalow at 10 Circular Road has been officially allotted to Nand Kishore Ram, who currently serves as Bihar’s Minister for Animal and Fisheries Resources. The reassignment is part of the state’s administrative housing allocation process, under which official residences are distributed according to the responsibilities held by serving ministers and constitutional office holders.

Officials maintain that the reallocation is being carried out in accordance with established government procedures governing official accommodation.

Rabri Devi Responds to Eviction Notice

Rabri Devi had earlier reacted strongly to the notice seeking the vacation of the residence. Addressing reporters, she indicated that she was not prepared to leave the bungalow despite the government’s directive. Her remarks added a political dimension to what is otherwise an administrative housing issue and drew attention from supporters and opposition leaders alike.

Residence Holds Long Political Significance

The property at 10 Circular Road occupies a special place in Bihar’s political history. It served as the official residence of Rabri Devi during her tenure as Chief Minister and has remained closely associated with the family of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav for many years.

Over time, the address became an important centre of political activity for the Rashtriya Janata Dal, with several major meetings and decisions linked to the party taking place there. As a result, the residence carries significance beyond its role as a government bungalow.

Deadline Set by Bihar Government

The Bihar government has reportedly given the Yadav family a period of 15 days to vacate the premises. Under the notice, the residence is expected to be handed over by the middle of June so that the newly allotted occupant can take possession.

The issue continues to attract attention across Bihar’s political landscape, with discussions focusing on government housing rules, administrative procedures, and the symbolic importance of one of the state’s most well-known political addresses.
