Television – Actress Vaaishnavi Prajapati has spoken candidly about the emotional experience of portraying a victim of ragging, saying that filming the challenging scenes helped her better understand the lasting impact such incidents can have on students. The actress, who plays Soni in the television drama Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan, shared that stepping into the character’s journey required her to connect deeply with emotions that were both intense and difficult to portray. Although she has never personally experienced ragging, she said the role offered a meaningful perspective on an issue that continues to affect many young people.
Script Left a Strong Emotional Impact
Speaking about her experience, Vaaishnavi said the emotions began long before the cameras started rolling. According to the actress, simply reading the script made her realize the seriousness of the storyline. She explained that most of her education took place through online classes, which meant she never encountered ragging herself. However, preparing for the role gave her a clearer understanding of how deeply such behaviour can influence a person’s confidence, emotional well-being and sense of safety.
She noted that while friendly jokes among classmates are common, any act intended to humiliate, intimidate or emotionally damage another person cannot be justified. For her, the story became more than just a television sequence and evolved into a reminder of the real struggles faced by many students.
Difficult Sequence Became the Most Challenging
The actress revealed that one of the toughest moments to perform involved a scene in which Soni’s clothes are torn during the bullying. She admitted that the sequence was emotionally draining because it made her imagine the distress someone would experience if such an incident happened in real life.
Vaaishnavi said she found herself thinking beyond the performance, reflecting on the emotional trauma that victims often carry after facing public humiliation. She added that the responsibility of portraying such scenes with honesty made the experience even more demanding as an actor.

While filming, Vaaishnavi also questioned why her character, known for being courageous, did not immediately resist the bullying. As the story progressed and she immersed herself in Soni’s emotions, she said she gradually understood that fear, shock and psychological pressure can prevent a person from reacting the way others might expect.
According to the actress, those scenes helped her appreciate the emotional complexity of victims who silently endure harassment. She described the entire track as emotionally overwhelming but also rewarding because it brings attention to an important social issue through mainstream television.
