Politics –The Andhra Pradesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to development, constitutional governance, and maintaining public order, while responding to criticism directed at the opposition’s recent political activities across the state.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led NDA government has defended its administrative approach, with Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha stating that the government’s primary focus remains on economic progress, welfare initiatives, and strengthening law and order. Speaking at a press briefing held at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Thursday, she alleged that YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s public outreach programmes have repeatedly been followed by incidents of political tension and disturbances.
Government Highlights Focus on Economic Growth
Anitha praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for his efforts to drive Andhra Pradesh’s economic development, saying that despite being over 75 years old, he continues to dedicate long working hours to attracting fresh investments, expanding industrial activity, and creating employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
She also acknowledged the contribution of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh, stating that both leaders are actively involved in initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure, encouraging business investment, and supporting long-term economic growth.
According to the Home Minister, the administration remains committed to implementing policies designed to improve public welfare while creating a stable environment for investors and businesses.
Opposition Has Right to Protest, Says Home Minister
Addressing the role of the opposition, Anitha said democratic systems allow political parties to organize protests and express differing opinions. However, she stressed that such activities should not interfere with public peace or obstruct police personnel from carrying out their legal responsibilities.
She questioned why several public visits undertaken by Jagan Mohan Reddy to meet affected communities, including chilli, tobacco, and mango farmers, were followed by reports of unrest. While making these observations, she maintained that maintaining peace and ensuring public safety remain among the government’s highest responsibilities.
Anti-Drug Campaign Remains a Key Priority
The Home Minister also spoke about the state’s ongoing efforts to curb narcotics-related crimes. She said the government continues to strengthen its campaign against ganja cultivation and illegal drug trafficking through the EAGLE enforcement system.
According to Anitha, protecting young people from the harmful effects of drug abuse remains a major policy objective. She added that authorities are committed to taking firm action against narcotics networks while encouraging public awareness about the social risks associated with substance abuse.
She also appealed to political leaders and public representatives to avoid portraying individuals facing criminal allegations in a positive light, saying responsible public discourse plays an important role in maintaining confidence in the justice system.
Constitution and Rule of Law Guide Administration
Responding to allegations made by opposition leaders regarding what has been described as a “Red Book Constitution,” Anitha firmly rejected the claim. She stated that the Andhra Pradesh government is functioning strictly within the framework of the Constitution of India and emphasized that legal provisions are applied equally, regardless of whether an individual belongs to the ruling alliance or the opposition.
She reiterated that the administration’s priorities include maintaining law and order, improving women’s safety, encouraging investments, expanding employment opportunities, and implementing welfare programmes without compromising constitutional principles.
The minister concluded by saying that the government intends to continue working toward balanced development while preserving peace and stability across Andhra Pradesh, adding that good governance remains the central objective of the ruling coalition.
